5.0 out of 5 stars Great for beginning swimmers who just need a little help staying afloat
I bought this back float for my 3-year-old son (it was the same kind that was used in his swimming lessons he took at our neighborhood pool). It's great for him because, unlike arm floats, he is able to practice paddling his arms in a style that is closer to a real swim stroke. Also it helps him stay afloat, but he is able to submerge himself a little to practice...

1.0 out of 5 stars Foam Broke!
I was very excited about this bubble because the pads could come off as my child progressed in swimming. Unfortunately, we've only had this item for three weeks and had only been worn about 6 times when the first piece of foam fell off. The pieces broke off where the strap is in the back and it fell off. We ended up attaching that piece to the back and it hung on, but...

I bought this back float for my 3-year-old son (it was the same kind that was used in his swimming lessons he took at our neighborhood pool). It's great for him because, unlike arm floats, he is able to practice paddling his arms in a style that is closer to a real swim stroke. Also it helps him stay afloat, but he is able to submerge himself a little to practice puttting his face and body underwater. I think it offers the perfect balance of asissted buyouancy for beginning swimmers who are trying to do more than just stay afloat, but still need a little extra support.

I got these bubbles for my daughters because they are the same type they use at the YMCA for their swim lessons. There are 4 pieces of foam on the bubbles so you can take one off at a time as they get used to swimming. Safer than using arm floaties too!

1.0 out of 5 stars Foam Broke!, June 30, 2009

I was very excited about this bubble because the pads could come off as my child progressed in swimming. Unfortunately, we've only had this item for three weeks and had only been worn about 6 times when the first piece of foam fell off. The pieces broke off where the strap is in the back and it fell off. We ended up attaching that piece to the back and it hung on, but then the new front piece broke off, too. So all in all, two pieces have completely come apart. My child has only been swimming, jumping off the side, and jumping off of a small diving board which are typical things I feel a bubble should be able to withstand. I'm following the original advice I received and going to our local YMCA to purchase one instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for kids learning to swim, December 19, 2011

I had something like this as a child, and had been wondering if they still make anything like it. We found one at our local pool and I then went online to buy it. We bought this for my five-year-old who is learning to swim but can't stay afloat by herself yet. This back float was great as it allows her to practise her "strokes" (e.g. doggie paddle!) unencumbered while not having to get anxious about staying afloat. Perfect for this stage!
For the comparison shoppers out there, we used another brand (Kiefer) at our local pool and I didn't really notice a substantial difference between the two brands.

4.0 out of 5 stars back float, October 12, 2011

This is very good for young kids to learn to swim. Good for kids under 4. Even though the Y center save all their back float for their swimming classes and don't offer for the public, I am glad that I can find it at Amazon.com.

Fast shipping and great product. My children love them! The best thing about this product is you can take one or two layers of the back off as they get better at swimming.

This is a wonderful way for your child to learn to swim. As they become stronger swimmers you remove a square.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works like a charm, August 1, 2011

This has been perfect for my 4-year-old. For the past couple of summers, we had used various tubes and floating tools, and he had gotten quite accustomed to the water. But he was still too afraid to swim on his own. Now, with this back float, he loves the water. His swimming stroke has gotten noticeably better, he is constantly floating around on his back, and he has all the confidence in the world. I love how you can take off one piece at a time to provide less and less assistance to the new swimmers, to make it more of a gradual path to learning how to swim.

5.0 out of 5 stars good floatation device, February 20, 2011

I bought this item for my 3 year old to use while we were on vacation. Just slipped it around her waist, tightened it under her arms and she jumped in the pool. It kept her head above water. She is just under 30 pounds so not sure if you had a heavier child if it would keep them above water, but a good tool to use in the water with parential support!

I bought this to help my 5 year old son with his swimming stroke. He has improved in a few uses. We have already had him taking his "sole flights".
