Pony 9166 Corner Clamp

I borrowed four of these clamps from a friend, to assemble a small frame.

Pros:

- Inexpensive for a corner clamp
- Opens to 3", which is wide for this type of clamp
- All four borrowed clamps were perfectly square
- Can tighten a clamp sufficiently to hold the work

Cons:

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
These clamps are inexpensive for a reason...they're junk! I bought 4 recently and discovered 3 of them were out of square. They are flimsy and twist easily, the clamping mechanism is ineffective, the profile is so low that clamps can't be tightened while sitting on a flat surface. After 2 uses, all of mine are the trash. I suggest you invest in higher quality clamps if...

Cons:

- Practical mostly for light duty/small projects
- Clamp faces are only 5/8" high
- Minimally sized, aluminum frame
- Lacks a quick adjustment feature

Other:

- With a clamp on each corner, a project as small as 6-13/16" square (inside dimensions), can be clamped
- To turn the handle [quickly], you'll need to raise the clamp above a flat surface, as the handle sits near the clamp bottom.

Summary:

For light duty or small projects, these are OK.

4.0 out of 5 stars corner clamp, July 11, 2011

Not much to say. I have 2 old clamps and needed 2 more to clamp 4 sides of a frame. These work very well without spending a fortune, as I seldom work on frames. Good bargain for the price. Previous reviews helped select this version.

I purchased four of these clamps to assist me with completing projects on my "Honey Do" list. So far, I've used them to make a raised planter for the yard, and have several more jobs planned. I was quite happy with the ability of the clamps to help me square up my wood. They held tight for the entire undertaking, and were easy to use. The only negative for me with this tool is that I would prefer if they were made with a little more depth to them to hold larger dimensional lumber. Overall, I would recommend them for the do-it-yourself person who likes gadgets and leans toward being a perfectionist.

Why is it that their 5 day shipping and handling to California was coming out to be $26 plus on Amazon but only $5.77 on their site?
Messed up? I would think so!

This rating doesn't reflect on the clamp, just the seller!
