This review is from: Adjustable Non-Tilt Overbed Table / Hospital Table (Health and Beauty)
I am bed bound for 10-18 hours a day when not lucky enough to be placed in my wheelchair. And I wanted to use my real computer and not my very old laptop that can not play games. I looked for overbed tables for a couple of years and they where all too expensive. This same model locally is in the hundreds of dollars price range. So I thought I would give it a try when I saw it here on Amazon...and it was the same table. It shipped extremely fast and a friend of mine using only hand tools had the table assembled and tested in under five minutes (and he did not rush nor look at instructions).
The table delivers all it promises and more. It is spring loaded and locks in place at the height you desire. And this is one of the very few tables that has a large variety for the table tops height placement. You just press on the handle to release the lock mechanism and it will rise or if you wish to lower it just slight pressure toward the support on the table surface will lower it. I am weak now and I can easily control this table. It is perfect for its designed function, being a hospital bed table. I actually have a 24" computer monitor, a keyboard and mouse on it and still have plenty of room for 2 remotes with room left over. I surf the web, play games and rest books on it. And when I am done for the night I just push/roll it out of the way and go to sleep. This is a sturdy table and better than most $100+ ones I saw. I am very pleased with this.

This is very convenient and helpful. Beats piling everything up on your nightstand. Less stretching to get things because you can put things right in front of you instead of stretching off to the side. Can easily keep things at your fingertips. Great for mealtimes too. The table easily adjusts upwards. I figured out the trick to get it to go down easily. Just press the release lever and the table on the same side simultaneously. If you you try to press both sides of the table together, it won't go down.

This table seems to have several listings and the prices change/vary. If you're not in a rush, shop around. I paid $50. Contrary to some photos, the top is the very darkest brown -- looks black.
You will need a 5/8 wrench and a Phillips screwdriver for assembly. Assembly: from the instruction on the outside of the box, I thought I was supposed to remove the black screw first thing. Whoosh! That pops it up to max height. Fortunately no body parts were in the way. You are actually supposed to remove it last. But if you removed it early as I did, do not despair. If I succeeded after that, anyone can. When I removed the dreaded black screw, evidently, the trip rod (thinnest piece) fell on the floor and I did not realize I needed to put it back in, because it is not really called out in the instructions. If you see the thin rod lying around, immediately thread it into the hole at the top of the column before proceeding. It will protrude slightly from the top hole (inside the column). This is how it gets moved by the trip lever. The instructions I printed from the Net (did not come with any) were inaccurate as well as mysterious. You'll figure this out, but the trip lever is installed with the long hex screw (14 on instructions) and nut (half of item 4; you will never use the screw part of #4). Thread the hex screw through the trip lever only after you have inserted the trip lever into the column. You may think the protruding trip rod will prevent threading the screw through the trip lever, but it won't, even though you can't see that. If you don't feel the trip lever engage the trip rod after you have tightened the screw and the nut (assuming that you have removed the black screw for this test), the table is not going to adjust at all. If you don't feel this connection, first make sure that the rod is inside the column and protruding slightly as above, but also check to see that the 2 bolts connecting the table top to the top bracket are tight. It was only after I tightened these that I was finally able to adjust the table, which was showing no vertical mobility up to that point. There is very little tolerance on this item; I also had to disassemble the bolts on the bottom and start over (the ones that connect the base to the column) because the slightest bit of crookedness resulted in a significant wobble. When it's right, you will know. (A koan for any occasion...) I installed the casters before connecting the column to the base because I wanted to make sure things were level before making the caster installation more awkward. Then I leaned the tabletop against the couch to connect the base. There's something in the instructions relating to the hex screw after you install the casters. That part makes no sense, since you used the screw with the trip lever. Just ignore it; the casters pop on as with other items. After the prolonged assembly process, the table seems sturdy enough. Good luck!

Error in Product Features,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Adjustable Non-Tilt Overbed Table / Hospital Table (Health and Beauty)
When I bought this, the Product Features claimed that the weight capacity was 40 lbs, which was why I chose this table. It actually has a weight limitation of 25 lbs. The seller told me that it should have said that the _shipping weight_ is 40 lbs.
The table we got was an Invacare Model 6417. This was nowhere mentioned on the web page. Assembly requires a Phillips screwdriver for the six wood screws that attach the top to the upright, and a 5/8" wrench for the two bolts that attach the upright to the base. The casters can be pushed into place without tools, if you can push hard enough. The reviewer who said they fall off must not have pushed them in all the way. The height mechanism is spring-loaded, so that when you squeeze the lever to the tabletop, it will rise. To lower it, you push the tabletop down while squeezing the lever. Apart from the weight capacity disappointment, we are happy with this table.

Why it's hard to put together!,
This review is from: Adjustable Non-Tilt Overbed Table / Hospital Table (Health and Beauty)
I think the product itself once it's put together is great. I read all the other reviews that said it was hard to put together. I figured it really wouldn't be. I see now WHY it is. They have the parts labeled incorrectly. The wrong nuts and bolts and the wrong screws are labeled to go in the wrong area of assembly. #4 should be labeled #14, that's all I'm going to say about that. And yes, watch not to put the locking coasters on the wrong feet. Glad someone else mentioned that before we assembled.
Once those things are figured out, it is well worth the money. I use it because I have no place to study and I found myself spreading all my books and my notepad, and my lap top all over my bed. Which was a pain, I noticed that I also do all my bills at night watching tv in bed, so I bought this just to make things easier, it adjusts easy. I have not found that it is wobbly at all. My husband tightened everything real good. Even at the highest height it's stable. And I wonder why I didn't think to buy something like this sooner when I was bed ridden YEARS ago. Now I'm just glad I have someplace to do all my "paperwork". :) We have a really high bed too so no issues there. Just watch out for the horrid instructions, it's a two person job to get the lever in place. And for goodness sakes! We didn't see the writing on the sticker of the screw that you are not supposed to undo until you have the main column and table top is assembled. My husband was trying to figure out the instructions, he loosed the screw and the column practically flew up into the air! We both screamed in an attempt to get out of the way. :) But I love it! Very affordable and so convenient!

tray table,

I purchased this over the bed table for home use and am very satisfied with the product. It came well packaged and easy to assemble. Working in a medical institution I knew what specifics I was looking for. The T-base (which this product is) is much sturdier than other U-base tables which tend to have issues with the tabletop becoming angled after use. The shiny chrome base is very nice. My college age daughter used it when she was home for a weekend and wants one for herself when she gets her studio apt. She can use it for studying in bed and also for food prep and eating. Overall perfect for the price. :)

Surprisingly Well-designed and Stable,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Adjustable Non-Tilt Overbed Table / Hospital Table (Health and Beauty)
For the price I wasn't expecting a lot. What I received was a pleasant surprise.
Assembly was easy and was accomplished in less than 20 minutes. It would have taken less time if the assembly instructions had not contained some ambiguities and an error which resulted in needing to remove and reinstall the table adjustment lever. For that I deducted 1/2 star. The parts and pieces appear to be of high quality and the overall fit and finish exceeded my expectations. The up/down adjustment is made easily with just a light touch and the casters roll easily and can be locked into position to prevent undesired movement. The table is sturdy and not wobbly for my purpose which is to support and allow me to use my laptop while sitting in my recliner with the legrest in the elevated position. The only thing, other than assembly instructions, I could find fault with is the exposed hardware underneath the tabletop. For someone using it as a bed table the screws which connect the bracket to the support mechanism could possibly snag bedding or clothing. Since the table support bracket does not extend all the way across to the opposite table edge, and at that point is the only rough finish, it may also be possible to scrape exposed or lightly-covered skin. For this I deducted 1/2 star. If I had it to do over again, I would probably prefer a tilt-top table which would make my laptop a bit easier to use. But, I deduct no stars for that since it was my choice to purchase this table and I certainly won't blame it for my error.

Very Solid Table,

This is my second table and it's by far the best. This first was a budget priced table available from the large "box" store...it took 25 minutes to assemble and was not designed to be very durable. This table took 10 minutes to assemble and the solid design translates to a very stable platform. Table height is easily adjusted, wheels roll freely and there's enough room to have a 23" LCD monitor with full size keyboard...total weight is 10 lbs. I would highly recommend this to anyone.
