I wore my Ardent Beanie SCUBA diving last week. My primary consideration was surface visibility. Observers on the dive boat said the green and orange beanie was easier to spot than the "safety sausage" other divers were using. I'm also very visible in underwater photos. The only draw back is that exhaled air gets trapped in the beanie. Do wear your SCUBA mask under the beanie, trapped air caused my mask to pop off on entry. I was in warm water so insulation was not a primary concern.

The outlandish colors appealed to me because I want our students to spot me quickly even in poor visibility. The secret PLUS is that when a friend needed to borrow it, it worked inside-out to show only black neoprene.

I've used this over the winter period for kayaking to stop the wind, but also as a safety feature in case I fell into the icy cold waters. I never did fall in, thankfully, but the beanie certainly kept me more than warm for extended periods of time, to the point where I purposely splashed water over my head to cool me down during my paddling trips out. The fact it is reversible to black is a nice feature too, as when I'm around a bunch of people I didn't always see the need in shallow water to have such a highly visible beanie on. The fit was good and it is comfortable.
