this one is worth taking a look at,

This review is from: Adler: Choose Life, etc. (Audio CD)
I recently purchased this CD of works by the American Composer Samuel Adler, because the variety of genres that appeared on this recording intriqued me to listen to a composer that I didn't know much about. Included on this disc is a very energetic and unique chamber work entitled acrostics. The performers play perfectly together never losing the momentum of the musical line. The second piano concerto is a pleasure to listen to as well full of fiery virtuosity shown by Alan Feinberg. Finally the most enjoyable piece for me was Adler's composition entitled Choose Life. This composition was for full Orchestra, Vocal Soloists and Symphony Chorus. Powerful is the best adjective to describe this work. At looking at the title, I was curious as to what text would be used...obviously it could have many different meanings. The text comes from biblical passages and depicts the struggle of life, overcoming fears, inhabitions, etc. Although sometimes the diction was not clear the overall energy of the performance was incredible. This was the first recording of this work, I hope to hear this composition live someday. Highly recommended, no reservations. You have to get this one!

This review is from: Adler: Choose Life, etc. (Audio CD)
Performed by the University of Southern Mississippi Symphony Orchestra and Symphony Chorus, the highlight of this CD is "Choose Life". This is the first recording of "Choose Life" and this composition is destined to become a truly monumental work. The interpretive decisions of conductor Timothy Koch are equally impressive. Other works included on the CD are the "Second Piano Concerto" with virtuoso Alan Feinberg playing a very difficult and interesting composition, and the chamber work "Acrostics". This CD comes highly recommended to collectors who are looking to increase their collection of music by one of the great American composers, Samuel Adler.
