Excellent for Everyone!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Administering IIS4 (Paperback)
This is a great book for anyone dealing with IIS 4.0. I'm not a beginner when it comes to web servers (I worked with Netscape Enterprise Server for 2 years) but I am (or was)new to IIS.Because IIS is based off of NT 4.0, it is a different breed of web server. Whether it's better or not..well, I'll keep those comments to myself. But I do feel that this book really helped me get up to speed with IIS fast...really fast. There's great coverage of all the services, some troubleshooting help, and he even touches on how to remotely administer the web server from a non-NT machine. I recommend this to anyone needing to learn IIS.

missing ODBC codes,
By Carl Swenson (Oklahoma) - See all my reviews

With out side help you may pass the IIS test but not on this book alone. Nothing on error codes and the test does cover this. Good graphs and pictures to help understand.

Good book for IIS4 test,
By A Customer
This review is from: Administering IIS4 (Paperback)
I passed the IIS4 test with an 827 last week and this book really helped my understanding of IIS4 and making it work! This book coupled with Transcender, braindumps, and Microsoft's ODBC error code printouts from MS web site helped me learn the material and pass the test. Download the PC Age demo test as well.Good luck.

An Excellent Resource,

I am a Web Developer who must wear many hats - including IIS Administration on occasion. This book gives precise focus on what you need to do for each task, with a clear explanation of the options available.

This review is from: Administering IIS4 (Paperback)
This book has everything you need in it to not only pass the IIS 4.0 test, but the necessary information to administer IIS 4.0 in the real world, which is extremely hard to find.

This review is from: Administering IIS4 (Paperback)
Good book overall but it does contain a few errors, specially in the code... Worth the buy though and hopefully the author will post a corrigendum to a web-site.

Much Better than Microsoft's IIS Course Notes!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Administering IIS4 (Paperback)
This is an excellent work. The material is clear, concise and very well illustrated. The author avoids the most common errors of his competitors: there is no editorializing, and he stays on course and within the scope of his objectives. Very, very well done! This material is much clearer than the Microsoft IIS course notes, I wish that this volume had been available during my MCSE prep studies. Now, the MCSE course notes stay on the shelf, and I carry this book in my bag, except (like now) when my colleagues borrow it! One particular outstanding aspect of this book deserves special mention. All the other books try to explain how IIS "ought" to work, and that when it functions abnormally, they have nothing to say. This book gives a thorough treatment of common error situations (undocumented "features") and how to work around them. The author clearly knows his subject well, and I am glad I bought his book. You will be too.

Fine for both exam preparation, and intermediate IIS admin,
By A Customer
This review is from: Administering IIS4 (Paperback)
This book, although not billed as an exam guide, certainly went a long way in helping me pass. One way it did that was through its many step-by-step examples, another was its clear and thorough handling of many basic IIS topics. The author did an exceptionally fine job of handling such advanced subject matter as Certificate Server and SSL, and MTA. I would recommend this book without reservation to anyone seeking to either build or enhance their knowledge of IIS 4.0.
