Editorial Reviews

Review

"Delightful, outstanding, superior, the best I've seen yet are just a few words I would use to describe the format of this text. As a professor, one item I am looking for is authors and textbooks that keep the pedagogy of college students in mind."

"Each chapter addresses an important area of early childhood administration, "walking" the student through set-up, hiring, budget, curriculum planning, parent relations, licensing, etc., a "how to manual" in many respects. The additions to this edition make it even more of an asset to a course and a potential teacher and/or administrator." Cindy Waters, Ph.D., C.F.C.S.,Upper Iowa University, Fayette, IA.

"The greatest strength of this text is the comprehensive coverage about each topic. Throughout the text, the author provides a thorough discussion of each topic including lists and suggestions." Phyllis Gilbert, M. Ed., M.S., Stephen F. Austin State University, Texas.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very little useful information, July 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The author uses a whole page or two to say maybe one informative thing at best, very repetitive, typical bad college text book and of course over priced!
Overall this book didn't offer most of the information I was expecting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Complete Book, May 16, 2010
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book gives a thorough and accurate picture of what high quality childcare administration entails. It includes everything from the tasks of a director, to budgeting, hiring and training staff, the potential roles of parents and community volunteers in an early learning environment, and information about accreditation. I used this book for a graduate course and have decided not to sell it back. I refer to the information often in my current job as a childcare director. If you are interested in seeking a career in childcare administration, or are a new director, this book is will be extremely valuable to you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Detailed Book For Staff and Management, February 11, 2010

This review is from: Administration of Programs for Young Children (Paperback)
With a number of child care administration books on the market, it may be hard for authors to create a text that is distinguishable from the others. Phyllis Click & Kim Karkos succeed in doing this because their product puts an extremely heavy emphasis on the managerial and staffing side of administering a child care center. They take painstaking detail to cover every minute aspect of managing a child care center using lots of examples along the way. If you want a play-by-play way to take care of your staffing needs, then this book outlines it and fills in the details with vividness and accessibility.

The rest of the book is pretty standard, but these two sections make it worth you time for $92.
