5.0 out of 5 stars This has been such a help
I just started a job as a secretary and my boss was no help in ttraining. I was lost. A friend recommended this book and it has been a lifesaver!! It has all the details and hints. After a couple of weeks, I looked like a pro.

If you are a boss, buy this book and make it part of your training. If you are a secretary like me, buy it and hide it in the drawer and...

3.0 out of 5 stars Administrative Assistant & Secretary Handbook
Overall not bad. I ordered the book because I discovered general clerical tasks such as envelope & letter formats, answering phones, taking messages were not common knowledge to highschool graduates. This book gave our receptionist who had no office/clerical training good guidlines to follow. The computer section is outdated.

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay, August 16, 2003

This is a book written in 1995 and yet there is a whole chapter on DOS and other outdated technology. No office still uses DOS! With the ever changing technology in today's world, the author would have been so much better off skipping that whole chapter. Letter formats and telephone etiquette will still apply ten years from now, but when talking of computers; today's newest is tomorrow's obsolete. So get this book for general office information but not to become computer savvy or to learn of the software businesses are now using.

5.0 out of 5 stars Indispensable how-to manual, December 15, 2008
The CEO may seem indispensable, but little changes on a day-to-day basis if he or she is on vacation. On the other hand, if the CEO's administrative assistant (AA) is out of the office, things can break down fast. The CEO may be the public face of the organization, but the AA (executive secretary, office administrator) is its internal heart and soul. When people need things fixed, from copy machines to schedule conflicts, from lost documents to lost opportunities, they turn to the AA, the all-purpose office expert, who must be knowledgeable, friendly and approachable, even if the CEO is above the fray. Executive secretaries are expected to be superb generalists, able to do a million things efficiently, on time and well. And just how is this possible? Well, look at this big, fat manual for AAs and secretaries. It covers everything, from the elementary to the complex, from telephone procedures to recordkeeping, databases, technology, correspondence and more. If you are an AA or hope to be, this is the ideal guide, with all you need to know in one handy volume. getAbstract recommends it to office administrators in every industry.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must to Have for Any Office, April 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
When I purchased this book, I was expecting basic information to review what I already knew about office administration duties, front desk, etc. I was wrong. This book resulted to be extremely helpful and I keep my copy at my office and use it as a reference or consultation guide whenever I am unsure of a new request or procedure. I was not too trhill about the computer hardware section because it is not my field of expertise but skipping that part, everything else in this book is of key importance in my opinion.
