5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing
I received the book the day after I ordered it for a nominal delivery charge. The book was just what I needed for class, and it turned out to be the most important class I will take for my degree (at least IMHO). The spine was a bit loose and I found, oh the horror, a page with pink highlighter marks. All in all, I'm happy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dont waste your money unless a prof tells you that you must
Seriously, ask the prof to reconsider using the text- not at all helpful for an intro to law class.... there are many other texts out there MUCH more helpful and much more clear!

5.0 out of 5 stars Like the ESPN highlights of Administrative Law, February 28, 2010

This review is from: Administrative Law (Hardcover)
This book was mandatory read for my Public Administration study. Unlike many of the Public Administration/Policy snoozer Text, this one is actually readable and well-worth its weight in gold. In it you'll find cascades of judicial case study on rulings that's shaped the Democracy and Bureaucracy of the United States. Administrative Law provides the reader with highlights into the thought processes (prevailing and dissenting opinions) behind the most relevant Judicial rulings (Supreme, District, Appellate, etc...) that affect our everyday lives as citizens. Equally as important, the Author presents the format in an extremely organized, easy-to-follow, easy-to-understand format for us non-lawyerly-type. I'm compelled to write a review for this book because it's one of the few Textbooks that's profoundly influenced my path in Public Service and provided me with a better understanding and appreciation for the nuts-and-bolts that make our Nation great. The one complaint I do have for the book -and for all Textbooks for that matter- is that it's quite heavy and difficult to lug around in a paperback/magazine-like fashion. In the not-so-distant future, I look forward to buying this reference Text in E-book format.

This review is from: Administrative Law (Hardcover)
I thought I was purchasing an Administrative Law text book. This is not a text book. It is a book of this guy's opinion. For example, he writes that the courts are not well suited to the task of being a watchdog over agencies and says that the members of the Reagan Supreme Court believe that it is not the proper judicial role for for judges to play an active role in policy making. The guy never mentions that the Consitution makes a separation between the courts and legislature -- he just decides to bash Reagan and his appointees. He also states: "...the Depts. of Education and energy are still alive and well today and apparently not endangered despite nearly 2 decades of attack by Republican presidents...even though the agency's (National Endowment for the Arts) budget is less than a pittance of the whole federal budget, the agency has become the symbolic whipping boy of Speaker Newt Gingrich..." This opinion has nothing to do with administrative law, and is completely unnecessary. I certainly hope anyone who has to read this book for a class will think for themselves before taking what this guy says as law. Further, he says he's a professor at, according to US News, a fourth tier law school: Washburn University. However, I can't seem to find his e-mail address there.
