revolutionary,
By A Customer
This review is from: Administrator's Staff Development Activities Kit (J-B Ed: Activities) (Paperback)
I hesitate to call this book revolutionary because many of the ideas have been around for a while, but the concepts are presented so insightfully that they seem revolutionary. This book coordinates inservice, supervision, and evaluation so intelligently that all the elements not only complement each other but they work better. I think this book is an absolute must for all school administrators. Our school has incorporated the concepts, and they work. Teachers do a better job and they actually enjoy supervision! I recommend this book to anyone who really cares about improvied quality in the classroom.

Has it all,

I can't think of one other book on the market that actually lists well over a hundred reasonable and well-researched standards of teacher performance, then provides the materials for teachers to reach them! This book actually contains easily duplicated booklets of activities for teachers to help them with their in-service and self-suprvision activities. I bought a book for each of my department heads! The money was well worth it. Teachers love and appreciate the materials. I don't know one school administrator who would not benefit from this book.

I did not find this book too helpful. The probelm with staff development is that individuals who present are in and then gone. There's no follow-up. The author suggests administrators/supervisors conduct the activities before/after the PD and to emphasize follow-through. I wasn't that excited about the activities either. I think there are many other books that center around PD but builds on specific areas for teachers to improve such as Charlotte Danielson's, Enhancing Professional Practice.
