This review is from: The Admiral; a Novel (Hardcover)
Story details the routine of shipboard life during world war 2. The focus is the forgotten Aleutians Islands area and the interaction of personalities coping with continual training at sea in an area where nothing out of the ordinary seems to happen, until it does! A tired old cruiser manned by a crew of mostly castoff troublemakers from other commands while patrolling the rough waters off Adak Alaska responds excellently to Japans feint at Adak during the battle of Midway

Unforgettable sea saga,

This is a book I regret ever having let go of. This book is why I cannot read many kinds of mainstream stories (I have a few favorites, a very few, though) because the story of battle, of survival, is larger than life and it shows why men come back from sea or battlefield changed. I loved the Admiral's guts and cunning, a big man perhaps no good for bureau work but perfect for his circumstances, who took a naval hulk and made a difference with it.
