From the Back Cover

The business school application scares most people. Sure, to outsiders, it looks simple enough - fill out a few forms, take a standardized test, send transcripts, answer some essay questions, get recommendations, and voila, you're in. If only.

As you consider the prospect of business school, you know it is not simple at all. Even deciding whether to apply, or to what schools you should apply is a challenge. And there are no easy answers. Unlike other guides to MBA admissions, Admitted gives you a framework for applying and helps you organize your thoughts so that you can tell your authentic story in the MBA application. It helps you navigate the process, inspired by real-life stories of those who have been there before (and succeeded!). As you explore and try on different MBA programs for size, Admitted serves as your guide. Instead of telling you what school fits, the exercises in the book encourage and challenge you to ask the important questions that will help you decide what fits and importantly, what does not. The workbook also has exercises for you to dissect your work history and create compelling stories about what you've achieved.

Admitted not only helps you structure your campaign, it encourages you and gives you guidelines to explore your aspirations, experience, work style, emotional intelligence, and place in the world.

More About the Author

The business school application process isn't pretty. I know students get all wound up, feel overwhelmed, and don't know what to do with their energy, so as an MBA admissions consultant, I bring all of my experience to the table -- admissions coach, career mentor, Wall Street professional, editor, writer, HBS alumna, ESL tutor, foreigner in Asia, and more -- to give the best advice I can to each applicant and make the often grueling process eye opening, enriching, and rewarding.

How? I get to know each client personally, brainstorm with them, make them laugh - I hope! - and ultimately help them discover their authentic selves to craft the essays that will best represent them to the admissions' team. I'm no therapist, but I do the best I can to keep them sane.

After working for several years as an MBA admissions consultant, I realized the need to put my years of advice and experience into a uniquely formatted book, giving prospective MBA applicants the guidance and exercises to uncover the key aspects of themselves that are crucial for success. The result? Admitted: An Interactive Workbook for Getting into a Top MBA Program.

Along with helpful tips and stories about successful applicants, Admitted breaks down the application journey from beginning to end. The heart of the book is its exploration of the leadership essays, aiding applicants in recognizing their true selves through storytelling and helping them formulate answers to questions about character, decisions, motivations, attitudes, and key strengths. It's full of tips and advice, too, on everything from work experience and resume writing to recommendation wrangling and prepping for the interview.

Helping students reach their goals is my passion. From responding promptly to emails to putting in time on weekends during the often stressful application window, I give my clients my all and do my best to keep them apprised of my own schedule, so no one ever has cause to worry that I am off in Nepal a week before the deadline.

If you're thinking of heading down the road toward an MBA, please get in touch -- I'd love to help!

5.0 out of 5 stars The way to bring it all out! December 28, 2011
Format:Paperback
This workbook is the perfect tool to bring out the important parts of your application. It is well worth the time to work through the workouts and really write down your thoughts. For myself and for many, the hardest part of an application is identifying your strengths, weaknesses, and defining why you really want to go to school. The exercises and workouts in this book help you to do just this. The tools then help you understand how to use what you come up with in your application. For me, I was applying to a joint program (MBA and MA in Education Leadership), and the book helped me to tie the two programs together in order to write a convincing application essay and focus on the important things in my interview. At the end of using the book, I felt like I had a better understanding myself and why I had decided to go back to school. I recommend this to anyone and encourage you to purchase it early on and start using it, it can help you choose the perfect program, as well as help you be "Admitted" to that program.

Admitted is a great way to get your creative juices going. It helps you dig deep into why you want an MBA. If, after going through the exercises in the book, you find this process difficult or it doesn't help you formulate your story, then I highly suggest re-thinking the reasons for applying to business school, or the timing of your application. The exercises push you to be honest with your career choices and interests, and I believe this book really helped me in forming my business school story. I highly recommend this book for anyone considering attending or just starting the application process.

5.0 out of 5 stars Test scores are only half the battle! April 17, 2012
By Anthony
Format:Paperback
Betsy's method got me into my dream school and long shot, Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley.

I know she has been putting together this workbook for a few years. I just read through and I can tell you, this publication is a comprehensive and refined outline of her proven method. The book will help you understand how you will stand out, which accomplishments are more impressive than you think and which accomplishments are less impressive than you think.

While you are dropping $70 on GMAT prep books (and a lot more on Kaplan...), set aside $25 for this tool. Test scores are only half the battle!
