If you're serious about production and design for the web, then the Adobe products are pretty much where you can expect to spend your life. Adobe CS6 Design and Web Premium is a good balance of capabilities for the price, including Dreamweaver, PhotoShop, Illustrator, Acrobat, Flash, InDesign and more. Thanks to Amazon's absolutely fantastic pricing, I was able to get off the month-by-month rental Adobe offers, and take ownership of my own copy.

The software is quite large and needs a fairly heavy-duty machine to work best. My 27" iMac with a 3.4Ghz quad-core i7 processor, 1TB solid-state drive and 16GB of memory is blindingly fast with most apps, but only "okay" with some of the more complex PhotoShop filters. Some of the blur and sharpen algorithms can take 15-20 seconds on my system. I do a lot of serious photography, and driving my Epson R3000 with PhotoShop seems to produce (very) slightly better looking prints than any other app I've used, including older versions of PhotoShop - I guess this makes all the resources worth it.

I tend to use PhotoShop and Dreamweaver more than the other apps, and the CS6 upgrade was a major difference for me and definitely worth the upgrade from CS5. I admit to having a bit of a "love/hate" relationship with PhotoShop - I know what it can do, but I tend to spend way too much time searching for just the right tool and outcome I want. No different from previous versions of PhotoShop, for all the power of these products, Adobe certainly could use a few lessons in user-experience design.

There's a whole community of add-on apps for PhotoShop, and I'm happy to report that most of the ones I tried, especially the Nik Software ones, worked flawlessly with CS6. To me, this would have been a deal-breaker, so I'm glad things just seemed to work.

To be clear, while these are some of the industry's most powerful apps for web design, they aren't really best for the casual user. It can take months to master each of the capabilities in this suite, and unless you're willing to put in the time, you'll probably find yourself overwhelmed. Adobe has a very good trial program where you can try before you buy - definitely take advantage of it if you're not sure what you're getting into.

Still, with the right commitment, the rewards can be stunning, world-class web sites, beautiful photographs, compelling documents and so forth...

I upgraded from Adobe CS5.5 Standard to the new Adobe CS6 Design and Web Premium. The main reason being was that I was emailed a coupon to save A LOT of money from Amazon and thus I felt the need to jump in and upgrade as I didn't have Flash from CS5.5. I mainly use Photoshop and Illustrator and the entire interface has changed from the light gray to mainly blacks. Content Aware Patch is an amazing addition to Photoshop CS6 as it makes working with photos much easier. I do not have to struggle with clone stamp and go back and forth. Otherwise, there would be more and more manual work and more time consumed. Only 1 DVD is included with the product number and seal on the outside shrink wrap packaging. Inside, you will find the DVD in a regular paper sleeve with the serial number, which you need to activate your copy of the software. It takes a while to install, but was so worth it especially for the price paid cheaper than the upgrade version.

Yes, it costs a small fortune but when you are ready for the BEST take the plunge. The only downside is that it only installs on two computers, which is unrealistic in this day when the average person has more than that. The upside is that you can deactivate it from one machine and activate it on another rather effortlessly.

To have the full capabilities of this suite is great. It's way too expensive for what it is, but I guess people keep buying Adobe products, so they get away with it. I'm one of those people.

I'm sure we're all aware of the pros of this suite, so let's skip to the cons:
- On the Mac, it only seems to check for and update one program a day. So if Adobe puts out updates for several products in a day, it takes me, like, a week to get all of them. I've just started to ignore the update icon in the taskbar now.
- It's memory-intensive. Yes, the products are good at what they do, but they take forever to start up due to how much has to be loaded, and my computer ends up slowing down after editing for awhile.
- Did I mention that it's expensive?

The software was new, complete and exactly what I needed. I am thankful for the money saved; both Apple and Adobe were higher priced.

Haven't had this long enough to really delve into all the new features but I was able to play around with the touted new Content Aware Patch in Photoshop. This patch is amazing! So simple to use and very easy. It blows my mind how much manual work Photoshop has cut out of the equation. Love it!

While even this version of Creative Suite is beginning to get a bit long in the tooth, it is as far as I choose to go with Adobe until they sort out their cloud strategy to better advantage—especially in terms of pricing—either that or I seek alternatives. Be that as it may, this version works well under Snow Leopard. I hope that will be the case under Mavericks and/or Yosemite when I finally bite the bullet and upgrade my system.

UPDATE 5/15: Having moved to a new iMac running Mavericks, I've found CS6 running pretty well in that environment too.

Advertising & graphic design is what I do for a living and Adobe products are the standard for my job. Integration between Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Dreamweaver makes my work life happen. Got CS6 before all of us were relegated to the Adobe Creative Cloud subscription, but when my customers upgrade so will I need to.
