5.0 out of 5 stars A lot of great software, all well worth it.
I upgraded from CS-2, but use CS-4 at work, so I'm pretty familiar with the different versions. I hesitated because it is pricey. But it was time. OK, anyone who uses PhotoShop knows you can call yourself an expert and not use 10% of the program. I just keep learning more and more. There is this crazy erase feature that clones the area you erase into the image. That...

1.0 out of 5 stars Design Premium CS5 Extension Manager does not open
Just search on "extension manager will not open" in the Adobe Forums or Google and pages of hits come up going back to CS4. This is a serious problem involving both Mac's and PC's that Adobe is simply ignoring.

That alone is worth the price of the program to me. I use InDesign a lot, it was great and is marginally better. Illustrator is the old work horse that is basically free and great to have. This group includes a few wows for only $100 more, so I had to do it. Dreamweaver, Flash pro, catalyst, etc. Amazing. I stayed away from Flash out of new software anxiety, but doing basic stuff isn't that hard. I'm glad to have it in the tool box. I use Dreamweaver at work, and it a very fine program that got better. Also, another freebee is Acrobat pro. Sometimes you just need a great looking pdf file. There is a lot of software in this bundle. I started watching the Adobe TV lessons on the web and that was helpful for my weak points, or to add proficiency to my PhotoShop work. Just when you think you know it all...

Here's the bottom line: it's pricey stuff, no doubt, especially if starting from the full edition. But, if you are a web developer, photographer, image editor, or graphic designer, or just produce ads for your small business - you HAVE to have this stuff. You can waste all your time messing around with inferior products - but don't. If you were a carpenter, would you use a toy hammer?

Ps: I'm using Windows 7 with a Dell XPS 9000, 8gig of ram, etc. Nice and fast, and not a hint of a problem. Get a fast machine - way more fun.

1.0 out of 5 stars Design Premium CS5 Extension Manager does not open, March 23, 2011
This review is from: Adobe Creative Suite 5 Design Premium Upgrade from CS2/CS3[OLD VERSION] (DVD-ROM)
Just search on "extension manager will not open" in the Adobe Forums or Google and pages of hits come up going back to CS4. This is a serious problem involving both Mac's and PC's that Adobe is simply ignoring.

I have Windows 7 Professional 64-bit with Design Premium CS5 installed. Nothing happens when I click on Manage Extensions from within any Adobe application, nothing happens when I click on Adobe Extension Manager CS5 on the start menu, and nothing happens when I double click on a .mxp file. No error messages - nothing.

So I had a free couple of hours and decided to call Adobe. Six hours later, after talking with Raj, Peenal, Tushar, Madhur, and Sandeep (get the picture?), after noting that none of them acknowledged having ever heard of the problem, after my call was dropped during one 30 minute wait, and after a complete uninstall and reinstall of the complete CS5, I have exactly the same problem I started with.

For my purposes, Design Premium CS5 is literally useless without extensions and Adobe has left me holding a $1500 boat anchor. Do you think anybody at Adobe cares? I don't.

Bottom line - DO NOT BUY Design Premium CS5 if you need to install extensions. They very possibly will not install and Adobe simply doesn't care.

My CS# on my laptop crapped out & I could not get it installed again so I had to upgrade top cs5 for $700 or so.
