A Real Story Worth Reading...,
This review is from: Adobe Dreams (Paperback)
Jo Moore has given us a true literary novel to sink our teeth into. ADOBE DREAMS leaves no relevant topic untouched. There's the worthiness of war, the life AND potential death of the earth, and the unbridled power of overwhelming love. Set during the period of the Vietnam War, it is a remarkable coming-of-age story for the ages. Don't miss this one. Escaping Innocence: A Story of Awakening

Heartfelt and Introspective,

Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award Reviews
Life works in mysterious ways and along with that sentiment, relationships fall in between. ADOBE DREAMS is a culmination of deep contemplation and inquiry in terms of one's life, that interchanges between son and mother. The story is set in the quaint Taos, New Mexico mountains, the narrator of the story is trying to come to terms with the events that have affected his life, which appears to center on the dreams he had about his mother and the era of his birth, which she admits was unexpected, the late 1960s and early 1970s during the Vietnam War. Interspersed with a collection of childhood memories of his mother and her reactions after finding out about his father's death in Vietnam, the narrator attempts to piece together each link to understand and solve the distress he may have been feeling about his mother. The story delves into his humble middle-class upbringing, and gives readers an inkling of his supportive role after the loss of his father. ADOBE DREAMS is an insightful book that uses memory and history as a backdrop. And with that, the story is refined and interesting. Indeed, it is a book worth reading.

AT LAST NEW VOICE IN LITERARY FICTION,
By Page Turner (San Francisco, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Adobe Dreams (Paperback)
At last a new voice in literary fiction we can believe in. Powerful prose, not for the feint of heart, a story so poignant and so timely to the events of today. Subtle parallels between the 1960's and the first eight years of this new millennium---between Vietnam and Iraq. "There is no such thing as a good war or a bad peace." Will we ever learn from our mistakes? She goes straight for the jugular---the characters and their plight have staying power. History revisited. But history repeats itself. Never more true than in the past seven years. Politically charged, ruthless and wise.
A story rich in metaphor. A story of the River. A story of the Wind. A story rife with political strife unparalleled perhaps only by today. Also by Jo Moore---THE ANGLO;TURQUOISE AND OBSIDIAN: 14 STORIES;OTHER OBSESSIONS

Rich in Metaphor,
By Tom O'Malley (Brooklyn, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Adobe Dreams (Paperback)
This novel is rich in Metaphor. It runs like a river---the author must have seen the Rio Grande as an underlying metaphor. Sometimes it's like a river in the spring---- laconic and clear and carrying secrets down the canyon at a rapid rate. At other times it's deep and introspective---delving into secrets buried deep within, never to be exposed... Like the character, Mark Lindstrom, who spends his life looking for the reasons for what came before he was born--- buried so deep within the lives of his mother and father and the socio-political status of the 1960's, the Vietnam War, and the Peace Movement. I highly recommend it--- a great read!

Moore hits another one out of the park!!!,
This review is from: Adobe Dreams (Paperback)
I read the Anglo by Moore and loved it, so I picked up Adobe Dreams to see if Moore was a one hit wonder or a great story-teller...it turns out to be the later!
Adobe Dreams is one of those page turners that will keep you up all night until you finish it...like The Anglo, Dreams is not afraid to take on big issues and weave a great story around them, in this case the Vietnam War. One can not help but read this great book and see the parallels to the other wars this country has been involved in too....so you will find yourself thinking about the story long after you turn the last page.... Well recommended - not to be missed! Get The Anglo too: THE ANGLO |
