3.0 out of 5 stars Looking for more, October 1, 2003
By
Kelly Owens (Grand Rapids, MI United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Adobe Encore DVD for Windows (Paperback)
This book is good for a beginner, but that's it. I bought Encore a month ago, and just now received this book from when I pre-ordered it. So now that I have had a month to play with Encore without any books, I have picked up the basics pretty easily because I am use to other Adobe interfaces. I wanted more in depth about Motion Menus. There is one chapter in here on it, and it just brushes over it. I want examples and tutorials. This book doesn't come with a cd. Basically it just gets you started, but I am looking to create complex motion menus, and this doesn't help me too much.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent QuickStart Guide, October 9, 2003
By
This review is from: Adobe Encore DVD for Windows (Paperback)
I've been reading QuickStart guides for years, and this one holds up to the challenge: get people off to a "Quick Start" with the application and let them run from there. The book covers all of the essentals needed to get you going with Encore and offers some tips along the way. Encore has an amazing feature set, and I am sure that there will be more in-depth books with cds in the future, but if you're a self-starter type, this one will get you up to speed enough to try the tricky stuff right away.

1.0 out of 5 stars unorganized, badly planed, worse than the manual!, December 16, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Adobe Encore DVD for Windows (Paperback)
I have been thru the other books from peachpit press and this one pretty much fall into the worst ones published by this company. If you have no idea on how DVD works, this book will lead you to more confusion and scare you away from DVD authoring! The manual come with the application is undoubtly the least informative from Adobe and this book certainly doesn't help at all. The Advanced Motion Menu section, for instance, does not mention other ways of creating the buttons or how to use the library, and does not explain on how to create motion buttons in Photoshop. This book touchs alot of topics, but it does not present the whole procedure nor give you details on how the inner works of DVD authoring. Don't buy this book if you really want to learn Encore DVD, and get the Adobe Classroom in a book instead!
