Product Description

Adobe Flex 2 is a complete, powerful application development solution for creating and delivering crossplatform rich Internet applications (RIAs) within the enterprise and across the web. It provides a modern, standards-based language and programming model supporting common design patterns and includes an Eclipse™ based development environment, advanced data services, and a fast, enterprise-class client runtime based on the ubiquitous Adobe Flash Player. Flex enables the creation of engaging, interactive, expressive applications that dramatically enhance user experience, increasing customer satisfaction and making users more productive. Adobe Flex Charting 2 lets developers quickly and easily add rich data visualization capabilities to any Flex application. Developers simply drag and drop chart types into their applications, and charting components are dynamically rendered on the client. It is then easy to add drill-down actions, rollovers, and other interactivity that makes charts insightful and useful, leading to better business decisions.

This review is from: Adobe Flex Builder 2 With Charting - 1 User [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
Flex Builder combines with the open-source Eclipse IDE to provide a computer language for describing web pages that may contain eye-popping renderings of graphs (pie, column, bar) and charts (datagrids). You can easily include videos in your pages. Graphs and charts can zoom, transition with wipes and fades, and they render in stylish modern colors. They bind to data that may be sourced from web services, over the Internet from XML files, and from files on your very own LAN or local computer. The documentation follows the industry standard, which is to say it isn't very good. You'll search for days for answers to your questions. The code appears to be rock solid. Eventually you get to a point where it all begins to make sense. That's on account of your effort. There is a large user community. All-in-all: a valiant effort that succeeds more than it fails. The only reason I mark it down is because of the documentation. I have seen much worse. This is only slightly above average.
