A Good Beginners Guide for GoLive,
By A Customer
This review is from: Adobe(R) GoLive(R) 4.0 Classroom in a Book (Paperback)
I wanted to move up in web design so I purchased GoLive 4.0. I was having trouble going from my earlier simple web design software to Adobe GoLive however. GoLive's complexity can be daunting at first. The Classroom in a Book bailed me out since I was able to move through the lessons at my leisure becoming familiar with different aspects of the new interface. I am now more comfortable with GoLive and will be able to work on recreating my website more professionally.

For the beginner this is a very useful book. I understood it completely with no problems. As far as the Win and Mac displays go, I had no problem with this. The book made a lot of sense. The only problem I did have was saving the files as directed. You have to change the files from read only in order to save. I would recommend it to any one that is new to GoLive.

Waste of money....anyone can do this book in a day. The book constantly keeps telling you to read chapters in the user manual for information.A lot of info not covered. This book is only good for the most basic site.I want my money back. P.s chapters in the book can be found on the adobe site.

This book is a great place to start for those who are unfamiliar with Golive. There are a few things that may be of interest to the intermediate user. Probably nothing of interest to the expert. Overall, it is well written, however I found some disparity between what is shown in the book and what is reality. Specifically, when dealing with Quicktime elements.

I'm a beginning web designer and bought this book to avoid taking a $300 course at the local college. I feel like I have a good handle on the basics of a great program now. The more advanced stuff (like CSS) did confuse me toward the end, but I know I can always use the book as a reference. Great for beginners!

All I know is, I recieved the manual along with the software and all but tossed it out of the window because I am throughly convinced that Adobe intends for us to run out and purchase ANOTHER book JUST to get started. Regardless, the Classroom in a Book took me step-by-step without the hangups, and I needed to use GoLive IMMEDIATELY for a project--I was in full swing after just four chatpers. I would highly recommend it to a beginner like myself.

Should have been included with the software,
This review is from: Adobe(R) GoLive(R) 4.0 Classroom in a Book (Paperback)
This is another great book from Adobe's Classroom in a book series. Frankly the tutorial that came with the GoLive software is pretty poor. This book really walked me from knowing practically nothing about GoLive to really feeling that I have a good grasp of this very powerful software. Well worth it if you want to get started quickly with this software. The 'Classroom' series of books are good because they teach you by having you do tasks instead of just reading about them.

Just finished AGL 4.0 CIB and it was worth the price and the wait. Some advanced features not covered (so four stars) but the basics and beyond are done nicely.

A little disappointed, especially for the WIN user,

I've now completed the entire "Classroom in a Book" and found it overall quite helpful overcoming the "new software" fears. With the massive installed base of WIN versus MAC, it is surprising that so many of the critical screen shots are MAC only. They do offer many in Windows, but when one is starting out, every cue helps. It should be redone for Windows. Also, the practice files on the included are locked "Read Only" -- which is a small problem, one must first "unlock" them in Explorer to save them as directed. Missing: The main purpose of software is to help one do a "job" -- in this case, build web sites. It would be very helpful if they included a chapter, "Building a Multi-Page Site from Scratch" -- taking you step-by-step through a good system of building sites using the software. Advanced users and Web Masters aren't reading the book anyway!

Before I started using Adobe Go Live Classroom in a Book I had no knowledge at all about building a web site. I found the book very helpful since I was starting from a blank slate, but if you have any knowledge of web design at all I wouldn't recommend this book. It quite often refers to the users manual for more in depth description and the lessons often left me with a lot of unanswered questions. Overall, it proved to be very helpful for me though. I am confident that I could now build my own web site, though it would not be a very complex project! I would recommend this book as a starting point to anyone who would like to learn the basics, but plan on investing in a more advanced book later on to learn the more intricate details of the program.
