Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Those using ImageStyler will easily learn plenty of new tips and techniques in Adobe ImageStyler in Depth, a guide to Adobe's Web-graphics tool. The book pairs a fun and casual tone with detailed content, so it succeeds in serving both the beginner and the more intermediate user looking for real hands-on insight. Adobe ImageStyler shows you how to create textures, backgrounds, styles, JavaScript rollovers, layouts, navigational elements, and animations. You also learn about batch processing; using ImageStyler with popular vector, bitmap, and HTML tools; and optimizing your images with Adobe ImageReady.

This book doesn't shy away from palette, platform, browser, and bandwidth issues, but it doesn't bury you with too much technical detail either. Large screen shots and illustrations, clear headings, and step-by-step procedures simplify the learning process. A four-color section shows many ImageStyler graphics, and the companion CD-ROM has more artwork as well as demo and shareware versions of ImageStyler, Photoshop 5, Illustrator 8, and several utilities for Mac and PC. Appendices on shortcuts, fonts, image mattes, and seamless textures round out the book. --Kathleen Caster

5.0 out of 5 stars If you use ImageReady, you need this book!!!!, June 17, 1999

This review is from: Adobe ImageStyler In Depth: The Latest Design Tool for Creating Sophisticated Web Graphics (Paperback)
Dan did a great job with PageMill in Depth, but ImageStyler in Depth shows this man knows not just his HTML, but his graphics, too. And where would the web be without graphics? Anyone who uses the program...beginners and advanced users alike...can buy this book and benefit from it. In fact, it's a "must have" for your web library. Adobe hit a home run when it released the program, but if Dan didn't get a grand slam with ImageStyler in Depth, I don't know what would. I teach web design and web graphics on a daily basis, and Dan's book shortend my learning curve considerably. I think so much of this book, I'm buying copies for my students and distributing them in class. Get it. You won't be disappointed. Maybe the best features of the book are in the back. Dan shows you how to integrate other popular graphic programs with ImageStyler, and reserves an entire chapter for ImageReady, another great Adobe product.

As a graphics professional who is just beginning to explore the techniques of web site design, I found this book a great help: first, it is a good supplementary guide to the manual Adobe provides, and second, it helps explain some technical design principles which are unique to the web. If you have just purchased Imagestyler, I recommend it highly.

2.0 out of 5 stars Waste of Money, July 9, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Adobe ImageStyler In Depth: The Latest Design Tool for Creating Sophisticated Web Graphics (Paperback)
I bought this book long time ago hoping to learn Image Styler by myself, but It didn't help me. There is nothing in this book that was valuable whichI couldn't figure it out by myself, or by the free tutorials available on the web.

One important thing I figured out ( and I am speaking for myself) is that Image Styler is not the kind of software that need proper training before being able to use it, every thing is ready made and so clear, except maybe for the Javascript rollovers.

Don't waist your money on this book, or any book about Image Styler for that matter. Put your money on more powerful tools such as Photoshop or Flash
