I'm sure the product is great but Adobe will not allow an upgrade from a Suite Version to just InDesign CS5. Product returned.

Every product has a product cycle, and Adobe is no different. The problem is Adobe's come round with increasing regularity. This is an upgrade from an earlier version and yet they still want to charge $195 for it - robbery is what I call it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Over-priced, March 31, 2011
This review is from: Adobe InDesign CS5 Upgrade [Mac][OLD VERSION] (DVD-ROM)
Every product has a product cycle, and Adobe is no different. The problem is Adobe's come round with increasing regularity. This is an upgrade from an earlier version and yet they still want to charge $195 for it - robbery is what I call it.

However, I've so far resisted upgrading from CS4 on my home machines, but my work machine has it. And oh my.... my personal experience is it's a bloated mess, prone to crashes and freezes on almost a daily basis. It's font handling has gone from bad to worse, where it can simply fail to recognise a loaded font. Some keyboard shortcuts continue to be broken [as they were in CS4] -- "show/hide frame edges" for example, STILL doesn't work unless you indulge in a farcical work-around. And the predilection of Adobe's programmers to move around menu commands from one place to another with each subsequent iteration is really annoying.

So, if you're debating 'should I, shouldn't I upgrade...' my view is DON'T. There is no compelling reason to upgrade, unless you enjoy giving Adobe $195+ every 15 months or so. InDesign CS5 is moving further into the interactive field with this release and whilst some of the functionality is interesting [the ability to repurpose for iPad is one that interests me], although much of it feels incomplete and rushed to market.

In summary, this is NOT a compelling update to what has become an over-priced, bloated and poorly-coded application.
