I HATE THE ADOBE CS5 UPGRADE. I"VE BEEN RIPPED OFF FOR $200 AND FORCED TO PAY AN ADDITIONAL $780 BY ADOBE. I've had Adobe products since Photoshop 4 and Pagemaker 7 and I feel completely strong armed...ripped off by Adobe. Because I had Create Suite one and three which has InDesign 1 and 3 as part of it I couldn't upgrade my Indesign to version 5 so now I an out $200 for the upgrade program and had to pay an additional $780 for the up grade. This is a cautionary tale. Adobe has joined the ranks of the uncaring shakedown computer "live chat" to India bad cutomer service companys. (move over Verizon) And be warned that Photoshop CS5 does not support twain 32 exchanges with your scanner driver anymore. And my InDesignCS5 has issues..like randomly making entire pages disappear. Shabby product. DON'T UPGRADE! Use a different program to create e-books. Their e-pub file is a joke it's like working with water.

I was really looking forward to installing this but Adobe doesn't let you upgrade a individual program when it was part of a creative suite. I basically bought this for nothing. When I wanted to return it, they will only refund me for half of what I paid for it.

I upgraded with high hopes of being able to use this to easily create e-books, but there are lots of bugs and it is harder to use than my old version (InDesign 2.0). The online Help files are less than helpful, also. Whenever I have to re-install the product (I had to re-install my whole system shortly after I bought this), I have to go through the same dance with Adobe that I did when I first installed it. The install disk doesn't recognize my upgrade qualifying product (Pagemaker 7) and I have to phone customer support, go through a whole procedure to get it to install via a back door code that they give me, and it doesn't inspire a lot of confidence that something this obvious was overlooked in the production. I see this is now labeled "Old version" so perhaps this issue has been addressed, but I am less than pleased overall and do not feel I got what I was looking for in the upgrade.
It is annoying that if I want to get the full use of this product, I would have to buy a book like "Real Word InDesign." There is no manual with the product, even on the disk. Adobe really has missed the boat lately.

The "Must Have" upgrade,

This CS5 upgrade to InDesign CS4 is well worth the investment. With InDesign CS5, desktop publishing proceeds in a logical format with options to suit every design need. Export interactive PDFs, Power Point presentations, books, magazines, E-Books or a one page letter. Text and design formatting options are logically organized, easy to apply and appear in your text as soon as you "OK" them. The learning curve for a sophisticated desktop publishing program is not so steep that armatures cannot begin using this program as soon as it is loaded, which I am happy to say, is in less time than you may imagine for so powerful a program. Online help is voluminous. YES, InDesign CS5, has set the stage for domination of the desktop publishing field. NO, I do not work for Adobe and No I don't own Adobe stock. This program is just incredibly bitchen and well worth the upgrade price. Don't buy any other program, you will be doing yourself an injustice. I have Photoshop CS5, Illustrator CS4, Lightroom 3, Pagemaker 7, office suites galore and mamy, many other computer programs. TRUST ME, InDesign CS5 is stable, versatile, easily understood, flexible, practical and powerful. If you want to type a poem all you need is Windows Note Pad, if you want to publish a magazine that catches the eye of customers, buy and learn THIS desktop publishing program. You will only get out of this what you put into it. BUT, in my experience, you are rewarded for the effort by this upgrade. Suite programs by the way, for those unhappy about upgrade policies, have their own upgrade schedule and requirements. You can't squeeze lemon juice out of a melon.
