After explaining the package's interface, author Sherry London delves right into selections, layers, and channels--the trickiest features and most important ones for sophisticated editing. Then she explains how to use the package's filters, paint and text tools, file formats, color spectrums and color correction tools. London explains how to digitize photos through scanning, and explains photo-retouching, photo-montage, and spot color. A good portion of the book is on working with other graphics programs, such as vector and 3-D software; customizing Photoshop through Preferences and Actions; and optimizing output by understanding color-calibration, color-management, and prepress issues. A hybrid CD-ROM includes a demo version of Adobe Photoshop as well as project files and third-party utilities and plug-ins.

Shorten the learning curve,
By A Customer
This review is from: Adobe Photoshop 4 Interactive Course (Paperback)
When I first got this book, I knew nothing about Photoshop, except that it was a very confusing looking program. After going through just a few chapters step-by-step, I quickly became comfortable using the program, which in my mind, is the purpose of the book. The companion web site wasn't really much use to me at all. Now I use the book as a "How do I..." referenceOverall, I felt it was very well organized, easy to read, and well written. Certainly one of the better $40 book purchases I've made!

This book is ok for the beginers. I also find this book helpful but it has some difficulties that I find after buying this book.Such as in CD Rom there are some third party's plugin does not work properly. So I think it is better not to give or include with this CD ROM. This book also lacks of colorful picture for illustrating. After all, it is a book about teaching on images.

Best book to really learn Photoshop,

I've read many books about Photoshop, but still thought I wasn't using it to the full potential. Now that I've found this book, the situation will change. The book is thorough and easy to understand. You can use the Waite Publishing site to expand on your knowledge or use the book standalone.
