I'm somewhat of a beginner to photoshop so my review is from a beginner's perspective.
The layout and organization of this book is extremely clear with step by step instructions to about 20 different excercises. Each exercise has color pictures of the screen shots along with the window of the toolbar/pallet/ etc. being used for it's respective step. Just by going through my favorite exercises exposed me to many photoshop techniques I didn't learn in a whole semester. I also got "Image Effects" by the same authors. Going through these two books increased my photoshop skills tremendously. I recommend these books to beginner through intermediate users but it shouldn't be your first book if you're a beginner as it doesn't go through the basic terminology of photoshop or really explain layers and selections. Advance users can probably get something from these authors. After going through dozens of photoshop books in bookstores, these are some of the most creative and definitely some of the most clear and organized books I've seen. The exercises are very fun and applying some of the techniques learned in my own work is very rewarding.

This, like it's companion book, Image Effects, is a basic Photoshop 'cookbook. There is little explanation other than the step-by-step instructions. If you like the images and effects then it's the book for you. Personally, I feel it's a bit pricey for what you get, but if it holds value for you, and will be worth the time saved.
