Adobe has screwed its loyal customers who have shelled out $700 or more on their initial software purchase of Photoshop and subsequent updates. I am running CS5 and will until operating systems no longer support it. I have own various versions of PS but now am forced to go to a monthly subscription to continue to receive on going updates. My initial investment is now worthless. Seek alternative to adobe. We are using a suite of products from OnOne as PS and lightroom plug ins but is also able to be used standalone and will be our future Photoshop replacement.

Dont get sucked in if you havent already. Run as fast as you can. Run away, Run away from adobe as fast as you can.

First off, I want to say the CS6 Photoshop interface looks BEAUTIFUL!!! For those who also own Lightroom 4 will quickly recognize the similarities. Such a huge change would lead you to believe CS6 would be a significant upgrade from CS5.1 photoshop. But unfortunately the differences pretty much stop just below the interface. Yes, there are a few items that are awesome such as "content aware patch" which is a great addition to the CS family but other than that the changes are quite minor or simply small tweaks on features most of us have found workarounds for. For instance they have FINALLY updated their HDR handling but does that mean we all stop using Nik or Photomatix? I doubt it.

So it all boils down to this - if you have extra money laying around or you absolutely need these minor tweaks on existing programs then buy this update, you'll love it. It has a beautiful and sleek interface and works everybit as well as CS5.1. However, if you actually use Photoshop to make a living and don't care whether the interface is sleek and pretty but are more interested in value vs. performance, then stick with CS5.1 and wait for more than "bells and whistles" to fork over good money.

Compared to the improvements from CS4 to CS5, this upgrade is just not worth the money. Adobe seems to think they deserve more money every few years but adding a few minor whistles, and try to muscle it out of the customers by withdrawing even the most basic support for the older product. Unless you're unhappy with CS5 or installing for the first time, this upgrade is a waste of money.

Oh and a note to Adobe: when I'm unable to complete the purchase of your product on your website, and am told by Support to "try another browser" (I was using Chrome), this does not inspire confidence in your company to deliver bug-free software.

Had to reinstall CS6, on the same computer, serial number shows valid, and after spending over 6 hours with tech support last week the program still will not install. The agent finally said a supervisor would call me back within 48 hours to fix the problem. No one ever called. When I called demanding to talk to a supervisor I ended up on hold for about 35 min... still no supervisor. Never did get to talk to one.
At this point I have an expensive program that is useless. I have owned various versions of Photoshop since about 1996 and have never had a problem.

I've been using an earlier version of Photoshop, Version 6.0, which I purchased directly from Adobe. I thought that version could use an update.

Let me say at the start that I think Photoshop is a great product. However, as noted below, not for me in its latest incarnation.

My older version displays the toolbox and textual material appropriately on my 2560 x 1600 resolution monitors. I use multiple monitors keeping the toolbox on one screen and the in-progress image on another.

I had purchased CS2 but stopped using it except for rare occasions (when some new feature makes up for the lose in readability), when I found the toolbox and textual displays so small as to be almost unusable.

A higher resolution monitor and CS6 would seem a great combination. However, this, at least at the time of this review, is not true with MS operating systems (I can't address its usability on Apple systems).

If PS Version 6.0 could display correctly sized toolbox icons and textual information on higher resolution monitors, one might think this would not be too difficult for Adobe to implement in later Photoshop versions. Sadly, this conclusion is apparently wrong.

Adobe has gone through a number of CS versions with the same extremely small display problem I found in CS2. This problem is still present in the trial version of CS6 I downloaded from Adobe.

I called Adobe technical support, to see if perhaps I was missing an option in CS6 to increase toolbox and informational display sizes. Adobe support was helpful, generous with their time, and extremely courteous. They provided the answer to my question, but not a satisfactory solution to the problem. I was told the only way to increase toolbox size was to lower screen resolution.

Sure, all the extra improvements are fine and dandy, but they have done a major screw up with the crop tool. Anyone who makes their living using that tool (photography for cropping, web folks for slicing, etc), will hate the extra steps necessary to do what used to be a simple step. It has tripled my workflow. Now, we hear, they have done major "refining" of the crop tool for those folks that subscribe to their cloud service. They are giving the people who own a copy a slight bone with a few little "refinements", but the majority of all real improvements are being given to the people who subscribe to their service. So, If you put out your bucks for the purchase version, it seems like you will no longer get the same kind of customer service that their subscribers get. But then, if you subscribe, you can't be sure what they are gonna screw up next with a 'new and improved' version. So spend major bucks with some one who will no longer value you as a client, or subscribe to their service and chance getting stuck with version that sucks. We, the customer, are now stuck between that ole' rock and a hard place.
