Update 7 October 2015. Getting my first update. Camera Raw is being updated to version 9.2.
-----
I am just getting acquainted with Elements 14, but there are some useful changes compared with 13. Much remains the same, but additions/revisions that stand out include:

1. In the Expert mode, the big changes are haze removal and shake reduction, both taken from Photoshop CC. For both, you can make the adjustments automatically or with the use of sliders.

Haze removal is helpful it cutting through haze that you sometimes see on your photos, especially landscapes, giving you more clarity, especially in the shadows. It is not a tool you are likely to use often, but it is handy to have for those times when haze spoils an otherwise great photo.

Shake reduction somehow senses the amount and direction of the blur caused by movement of the camera when the photo was taken and apparently rearranges the pixels and sharpens them to reduce the blur. Holding the camera still is still the best way to prevent blur, but this is a helpful tool to have.

A third change in the Expert mode is a refine edges brush that gives you more control when refining edges on cutouts than does the refine edges command in Elements 13. It is also taken from :Photoshop CC.

2. The Guided Edit is where there is the greatest change. When you open the Guided mode, along the top are 6 categories: basics, color, black & white, fun edits, special edits, photo merge. Below that will be 9 image windows for the options in the basics category. This seems to be the default way for it to open.

First off, I've been using PSE for years and not because it's a great product. I think it could be a great product if it wasn’t so buggy and all the features worked as designed. No, I use PSE because I haven't found a replacement that includes all the features I need. I don’t edit photos much and just need to manage and print my family pictures. At this point I’m open to change, so if anyone knows of a decent replacement for my purposes then feel free to let me know. Thanks in advance.

My review:

I have been running PSE11 on my computer and it was working as okay as it ever has. Then I upgraded to Windows 10. While PSE was still working okay as ever, I had a few issues with other programs and decided a fresh install of the OS might do the trick. So I uninstalled PSE11 properly and installed W10 from scratch and patched it. It was at this point that I had this brilliant idea that I should upgrade PSE so I bought the download version of PSE14 from Amazon.

PSE14 seemingly installed without a hitch on my PC. All was going well so I decided to see if there were any updates, which there were, so I chose to update it. The update downloaded and started to install but failed claiming my version of PSE was counterfeit. PSE was still working but it wasn't right and foolish me likes things to be right. I was pretty confident Amazon wasn't selling counterfeit software so thinking something must have gone wrong during the install. So I uninstalled it and tried to reinstall it but a message popped up claiming there was a problem extracting some files.

Next I visited Adobe's "support" site and downloaded PSE14 from there and tried to install it but got the same message. Re-downloaded it from Amazon and that failed too.

The previous reviews scared me a bit but no worries. I have a pretty crappy computer and was able to download the 64 bit with no problem. Also the activation code is located in your downloads on Amazon right under the photo icon... So the no activation code is a myth. I like the program.

The program I'm sure is great if I ever get a usable copy. Buyer beware it says it automatically chooses which version 32 bit or 64 bit for your computer. Don't believe it. It downloads the 32bit version which will not run on a 64 bit machine like mine. You will have to download it all over again from Adobe in the 64 bit version as a trial then enter your 24 digit key code to validate your purchase once its downloaded and trying to install. These downloads suck. Adobe makes it very difficult because they a want to prevent pirating of their software. They have added steps to get your valid copy to install. Good luck.

I almost didn't make this purchase through Amazon because of the multiple recent reviews citing installation and activation problems, but I'm glad I did. There are extra steps to be sure: download amazon installer, which downloads a small package that lets you download the 32/64-bit installers, which then download packages which I assume download/invoke the official Adobe installers, that *then* download the files you need to actually do the installation on your PC. I had not a single problem with this process. I got warned about a pending restart by the Adove 64-bit installer, so I did interrupt the flow to restart my PC and then reran the 64-bit installer. No issues at all. Yes, you do have to have an Adobe ID (which I had previously created before buying from Amazon) to activate, but the licence went through just fine.

I had no problems getting this installed and running on my Win7 64-bit PC. It's a pretty clean install and I keep it tightened down though. Either things have recently improved, or maybe folks just aren't used to so following and managing so many steps for an install.

Don't miss out on the discount vs. the Adobe direct price.
