Book Description

December 20, 2004

These days, nobody really wants to learn everything there is about a software product like Photoshop Elements. And even if you did, who has the time to endlessly tinker and play with it until you figure everything out? You just want a book that will quickly show you how to do things with Photoshop Elements - things that aren't already covered in the docs, and things you can't just figure out on your own.

Adobe Photoshop Elements in a Snap is designed specifically for today's computer user.

  • Somebody who is new to Photoshop Elements, but not new to computers.
  • Somebody who doesn't have time for long-winded, mind-numbing explanations - and certainly no time or patience for bad jokes.

If that sounds like you, check out this book. Comprised of a series of well-organized, bite-sized, quickly accomplished tasks, the book lets you zero right in on the one particular task you want to accomplish, quickly figure out what to do, do it, and then get back to work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good guide for newbies and old hands, May 20, 2005
By
David Field (Groveland, MA USA) - See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Adobe Photoshop Elements 3 in a Snap (Paperback)
I can't see how anyone can dismiss this book. I bought this book after buying Photoshop Elements - before I bought Elements I had the Visual Quickstart Guide. That book is about the program, whereas this book is about using the program.

In fact it has a hundred and ninety tasks, and all the ones I've looked at were clearly explained. The inside front cover lists these tasks, and each page has the task number listed at the top.

I've known Photoshop since version 2.5 for Windows, and I actually wrote a book (long out of print, thank goodness) on version 3 for Mac. So I know a lot of the underlying ideas of the program, and I'll give full marks to the Fultons for the way they explain it at the level of the newcomer to image manipulation. In fact, I needed to know how the Image Organizer and Image Editor worked together, and the book had that as a task.

I examined over half a dozen Elements books, and this one was the best as well as being the largest. It has many diagrams (with many pictures of the Fulton couples' terminally cute daughter, Katerina). In fact the only reason I didn't give it five stars was that the the black and white pictures didn't have enough contrast, and it's possible to miss details.

I think anyone who looks for a book on Elements and passes over this one is doing themselves a disservice. Photoshop Elements has plenty of amazing and useful features to improve your photographs, not to mention a large part of the abilities of the main Photoshop program, and using it but not knowing how to achieve new things is a waste of your money. So get your money's worth with Photoshop Elements in a Snap.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very well done. A good addition to your PSE library., February 10, 2005

This review is from: Adobe Photoshop Elements 3 in a Snap (Paperback)
As a person who has done a lot of teaching I am a critical evaluator of books. This is a very comprehensive book on PSE 3 that features a super cross reference system which enables you to "jump in" on most any question. The organization is beautifully done and the explanations are very clear. I was bothered by the 1 star rating provided by another reviewer and fearful that someone might "pass" on a very good resource because of a poor rating. I would have gone to 5 stars if the photos used in the book were available on a CD or via the web.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Well Written Book, January 26, 2007
This review is from: Adobe Photoshop Elements 3 in a Snap (Paperback)
This book is written in a manner that makes it very usable.

There are 191 tasks that are identified. For any task that you want to do -- just look for the task in the indexes at the front or back of the book and you will be directed to the proper task number (front index) or page number (back index).

In addition to the steps needed to accomplish the tasks there is much useful theory included in the book.
