I purchased this book from Amazon about 6 months ago, but I did not want to rate or review the product before following the lessons throughly.

I am a photo enthusiastism, love recording my life with my Cannon DSLR (550D). More than often I need a photo editing tool to fix some pictures. Due to budget issues and function orientations, I skip Adobe PhotoShop CS5 and lightroom 3. However, I could not resist the offer when I saw the on sale price of 59.99 US for Photoshop Element 9 (PSE9) at Costco.

I had some Photoshop experience long while ago back in high school, but never master it. I then decided to get a book to max out the PSE 9. After reading several guild book in the bookstore, I decided to purchase the "Classroom in a Book" published by Adobe.

At the beginning I did not appreciate how almost 1/3 to 1/2 of the book addressed on PSE Organizer. Nonetheless, after disciplinary going through the lesson step by step from page 1, I then realized that PSE Organizer is indeed a big part of PSE 9. Using tagging and bookmark can really simply the way to organize one's photo library.

In terms of photo-editing training, I think the book do a pretty good job of explaining the concepts and providing adequate exercise. I have read too many PS tips book/magazine only tells you how to do it without telling you why it is done that way. For a beginner, I believe this book smooth the learning curve by proving sufficient insight of photo editing and PSE functions.

Pros:
1. Easy to read and follow.
2. Give essential training on using layers, filters, and many tools.
2. Help you to get most of of PSE 9.

Cons:
1. Not for PS/PSE power user, lack of advance photo editing/creation techniques. Perhaps b/c not of its target audience.

After all, reading this book is really like leaning in a classroom. I enjoy the learning from it a lot and would like to recommend it to a beginner to PSE 9.

PSE 9 Classroom in a Book (CIB) is good for beginners. Having learned PSE 7 by myself, many of the lessons were known to me. Nevertheless there are some new good tips, recommended for beginners, a bit expensive for those knowing previous PSE versions

Very good book in learning how to use Photoshop Elements 9. Everything is step by step and easy to follow. If you need to take a break, it is easy to pickup the next time you start. The only part I wish they expanded on would be more exercises in using the RAW editor, but overall it was a very good learning experience.

I use and enjoy the Classroom in a book. It is handy to learn how to use the vasrious functions and gives you the chance to try them out yourself. I have used previous versions of PSE Classroom in a book and found they were all worth buying and using.

Now that software developers have stopped including manuals with their products, how can you learn? With a product like this book. Takes you through all product features, and you can pick and chose which sections to dig into or skim. (The book is the textbook for a course about Adobe PS 9 that I'm taking.)

Delivery from Amazon was faster than promised (ordered Friday, delivered Tuesday - one day late because of holiday).

Received my copy of this fine book today. I immediately perused the index and did some random browsing, just to get a feel for what I had in store. I came to the conclusion that this will not be a speed course for Photoshop, that it will take some time to work through. If anything has been left out, I'm not sure what it could be, from what I saw, this book hasn't missed a thing. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to know everything imaginable about Photoshop.

As instructor at a local community college, I needed some additional material in for a series of 3 classes in Adobe Elements.I think the book does a pretty good job of explaining the concepts and exercises. I have read too many PS tips book/magazine only tells you how to do it without telling you why it is done that way. For a beginner, I believe this book smooth the learning curve by proving sufficient insight of photo editing and PSE functions.

The Adobe products are very complex, this will not be a speed course for Photoshop, that it will take some time to work through.
The book allows one to put it down and pick and get back into the process of learning to make the most from Adobe Elements 9.
