4.0 out of 5 stars A good introduction to Elements 3.
This book is in the same class as Scott Kelby's Photoshop Elements 3 book. They are good introductory books. Both offer step by step instructions for using the program. Kelby's book offers more techniques (e.g., replacing red eye with a color and straightening crooked pictures are just two examples) but little background information about the techniques. On the other...

3.0 out of 5 stars A good cookbook.
I call this book a "cookbook" because it consists of "projects," using the photos provided on the CD-ROM, with detailed step-by-step instructions on how to do a number of tasks to categorize and improve digital photos. The "recipes" are quite good and, if followed carefully, produce the desired results. I rate it at only three stars because it is all "how to," with very...

4.0 out of 5 stars A good introduction to Elements 3., December 8, 2004

A reader. (San Diego, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 Classroom in a Book (Paperback)
On the other hand, this book tells you how to do something and gives extensive information about why you are doing it. The techniques it doesn't cover that Kelby does are available through the Help system. Like Kelby, this Adobe book ignores Mac users but as someone said about the Kelby book, Mac users can work through this book without too much trouble. Mostly just ignore any mention of the Photo Organizer. The included CD has all of the pictures needed to work the exercises. The two-column layout in the Kelby book is a bit easier to work through than the full page layout in this book. However, the background information given in this book is a great selling point. You can't go wrong with either book but you don't need them both. Your choice is lots of techniques but little explanatory text (Kelby) or fewer techniques but lots of background information (Adobe).

5.0 out of 5 stars Best One Of The Lot!, November 26, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 Classroom in a Book (Paperback)
After purchasing ( and returning ) several other volumes, I saw this book and figured "what the hay". I wasn't disappointed. Unlike the other so-called instruction books " Adobe photoshop Elements 3.0 CIB " is clear consise and to the point. This is the only book that I made through all the way. I highly recommend this book for the beginning Adobe Photoshop Elements user.Adobe seems to have gone out of the way to make "happy users" with this product. As for me, well, I'm off to do more of the work I never thought I could do. BUY THIS BOOK!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!, May 24, 2005
This review is from: Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 Classroom in a Book (Paperback)
This is a great book to learn to navigate the program. I was a complete newcomer to the program, and although I wouldn't qualify myself as a pro, this book has helped me master the main elements of the program and taught me to reason through using other techniques. It's a must have for lessons and reference!

I call this book a "cookbook" because it consists of "projects," using the photos provided on the CD-ROM, with detailed step-by-step instructions on how to do a number of tasks to categorize and improve digital photos. The "recipes" are quite good and, if followed carefully, produce the desired results. I rate it at only three stars because it is all "how to," with very little "why." Having worked through each and every project as a beginner, I think it gave me a pretty good start on understanding the program. I'm now shopping for a book with greater depth, including advice on how to take better pictures in the first place.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good book; easy to follow, September 3, 2005
This review is from: Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 Classroom in a Book (Paperback)
This book comes with a CD with all the pictures you need to do the lessons in this book. It takes things step by step (must go in order which is fine by me). Once you have learned something well (book gives you the chance), you don't have to keep reading over and over how to do the same thing. I am learning how to use the program (first time photoshop user) and am pleased with what I am learning. I would not have been able to figure alot of the programs functions on my own!

My only complaint about the book is that it is a little on the "dry" side as far as the dialog goes. Other than that I would say this is a great hands on learning tool that is indispensable!

5.0 out of 5 stars From the publisher: this book is Windows-only, December 6, 2004

We're trying to get the official text above updated, but please be aware that this book is aimed at users of the Windows version, which is very different from the Mac version of the software. We're not trying to deceive anyone: this is listed very clearly on the cover, and ought to be on here too: it just takes a while for changes to be reflected on the Amazon page.

5.0 out of 5 stars Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0, Classroom in a Book, August 30, 2005
This review is from: Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 Classroom in a Book (Paperback)
This book is well written with easy to follow instructions. This is a great tool for beginners with Photoshop Elements 3.0. I would recommend this book to all beginners. I hope that a sequel to this book more deeply exploring Elements comes out.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS BOOK!, October 11, 2005

I bought the Photoshop Elements 2 book by the same author when I was using that program, so I knew this too would be a terrific aid in learning the ins and outs of the new version. Everything is explained in plain, easy-to-understand English, and the many color photos that accompany the instructions make them even clearer. With this book, no other one on Photoshop Elements 3 is necessary!

1.0 out of 5 stars No RAW photo edit info, March 26, 2005
By
This review is from: Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 Classroom in a Book (Paperback)
Not the book for you if you are looking for information about RAW photo editing. No reference whatsoever is made to the use of these
powerfull tools included in Elements 3.0.

My rating reflects this book's absence of what I was looking for. On the other hand, if I had wanted to insert a image of my dog into another picture, turn his brown fur green, and add a "cartoon balloon" with a clever statement, then I would give it five stars.
