"WHAT AM I LOOKING FOR"? If you're searching for a book to teach you all of the ins and outs of Photoshop, this ISN'T the book. Proceed to the "...for Dummies" section and get the appropriate copy that matches your software version. It's all there in pretty simple language and concepts. HOWEVER, if you already have a basic idea of HOW to use Adobe...

2.0 out of 5 stars Layer Styles and How to Use Them
That should have been the name of this book which is basically is nothing more than a set of layer styles and a brief description on how to use them. While some of the styles are nice and do enhance photos the overall package is not worth it. There are plenty of free style palettes out on the web which can do a lot of the same things as this pakage. If perhaps this...

HOWEVER, if you already have a basic idea of HOW to use Adobe Photoshop Elements, and you are craving even MORE nifty effects and filters to subject your pictures to, THEN BUY THIS BOOK AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!
Jack Davis is psychic. He's anticipated your needs and compiled pretty much every cool effect you can imagine and rolled them into an easy-to-use and flexible format and created a great little book that teaches you how to use it all. You don't have to spend your free time on the internet, looking to see if anyone's designed any funky freeware/shareware that you can use. YOU, thanks to Jack Davis, can do other things with your time, like...HAVE A LIFE! Okay, so Jack Davis is probably a psychic who doesn't know what girls are. He's sacrificed any possible social life he might have in order to offer his book/software to all of you so that you'll look like Photoshop Gods by using it! (please insert guilt trip here) Of course the only downside that I've run across is that I spend all of MY free time playing with his fun & amazing layer styles! The bottom line is this: I can't imagine using Photoshop without One-Click WOW!

There are plenty of free style palettes out on the web which can do a lot of the same things as this pakage. If perhaps this CD/book combo came with something that absolutely blew your socks off, I would say it was worth it but, the fact is, it doesn't.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Worth The Buy, October 15, 2003
By A Customer

I did not find this book helpful. All it talks about is layer styles and frames. It does not help you learn how to use photoshop elements 2, which was why I purchased it.
