Lightweight, but thorough introduction to Lightroom 2,

This review is from: Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2: Visual QuickStart Guide (Paperback)
The Visual Quickstart Guide series has a pretty consistent record for being the books to turn to when you need a fast introduction to the basics of using a given program - and this title is not at all a disappointment. This is not a treatise on Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2. Rather it is an introduction that gets you off and running on using the program, which as a beginner is generally all you want to do. Oddly enough I started with the original program that Adobe bought and rebranded as Lightroom. However they changed the feature set pretty extensively and I never really got into the first version of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. Now with the second release, I was totally lost as to what Lightroom 2 did - and wanted a painless reintroduction to the program and its expanded capabilities. That's where "Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2: Visual QuickStart Guide" comes in . Nolan Hester is a good writer. He begins at the beginning and walks you through the program and how to use it. Hester provides, in my estimation, just the right level of detail. There's plenty of handholding without his talking down to you and enough detail to use a function, but not so much as to be boring or confusing. Personally, I found this book to be precisely the introduction to Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2: Visual QuickStart Guide I needed, neither too lightweight nor too heavy. Jerry

This review is from: Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2: Visual QuickStart Guide (Paperback)
The style of this writer is rather brief, but Lightroom's learning curve isn't as steep as that for Photoshop, so this book does the job pretty well. The illustrations are relevant to the text and my only criticism is that I wish they were rendered a bit larger on the page for easier reading of the illustrated menu texts and graphics. Still, with the help of this book I am now using Lightroom 2 productively. Furthermore, the book continues to be helpful as a reference for applying some of the more intricate features of the software.
