As an industry professional desiring to hone my CAD skills, I purchased several books on learning to use Photoshop, but none of them helped me learn as much as I learned from Frederick Chipkin's book Adobe photoshop for Textile design. It's written as if a friend is sitting beside you, not just explaining each step concisely and clearly, but also in a way that creates many an "ah ha" moment, something the manuals and textbooks mostly lack. For students, or anyone new to working with cad software, or for those who want to do things faster and better, this book for Photoshop CS6 is the only one you'll need.

Having just upgraded my software to CS6 i have found this Publication by Frederick L. Chipkin of Origin inc. an invaluable source of information. This new publication contains an additional 59 pages over the CS4 version, some pages addressing the little quirks in CS6 including very useful advice on the interface.
This is the third publication i have purchase from this author the initial one being for CS2, then CS4 and finally this current new work - I would have been lost without these books.

This book is a must-have for someone who is new to textile design, or even experienced, but just upgraded to CS6. I really appreciate how Frederick Chipkin breaks it all down into steps that are easy to follow. He covers everything from designing the motif, to color-indexing, getting it into repeat, even photo-draping. Awesome book!

This book starts out very simply showing you how to simplify your photoshop settings. These steps alone made the idea of using photoshop a lot less daunting! I have never used photoshop before and I was easily able to follow all the tasks that Chipkin leads you through. I had no idea there were so many elements involved but Chipkin covers them all; even - at times- giving you a few options on how to do certin tasks. I recommend this book to anyone wanting to know how to use adobe photoshop for textile design!

If you're building a body of pattern designs, buy this book. It includes shortcuts for creating them, thus saving precious time for the busy artist. Adobe Photoshop is the preferred tool of professionals and beginners for executing seamless repeats. In this book, the steps are explained so well that the beginner will follow them with confidence and the more experienced designers will learn tips which would have taken them a lot of time to learn on their own. Basic and advanced concepts of CAD design in this book will promote greater ease and freedom in designing.
