5.0 out of 5 stars Best Book To Buy For Premiere (Rated By Presky)
I am 14 years old and am doing the video yearbook at Maroa-Forsyth High School. It is a new idea that I brought up last year. 5.0 out of 5 stars Best Book To Buy For Premiere (Rated By Presky), November 2, 1999

This review is from: Adobe Premiere 5.0 Classroom in a Book (Paperback)
I am 14 years old and am doing the video yearbook at Maroa-Forsyth High School. It is a new idea that I brought up last year. Now we are starting up and are going to use Premiere to do the DV editing w/a Sony DCR-TRV 110 D8 Handycam. The book not only is helpful on how to use this complex program, but helps me some with my settings that I need to configure the DV in/out on the Sony VAIO laptop we use. It has great descriptions, pictures, and is for sure well written (I can understand it quite well.). The CD-ROM enclosed also contains the project files for the example productions. It is not only easy to use and learn, but fun as well. I STRONGLY reccommend it to anyone wishing to use Premiere 5.x.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book truly enables anyone to use Premiere with ease., July 29, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Adobe Premiere 5.0 Classroom in a Book (Paperback)
Adobe Premiere Classroom in a Book is by far one of the most useful software guides I have ever purchased. The interactive style allows the user to get the "hands-on learning" needed to truly become proficient using Adobe Premiere. For anyone who uses video software to create quality videos, this is a must have for anyone who uses Premiere.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great book., November 26, 1998

Adobe's Classroom in a Book series are the best software training books I've ever used. This one is no exception. It's very logical, clear, and well thought-out. The CD that's included is well integrated with the training provided in the book. I also have the Photoshop 5 and PageMaker 6.5 editions, and they're great too.

I wish Macromedia would publish books like this for their products.

While the material in this book is useful, I resent having to purchase at todays prices a book that duplicates so much material already included in the book that comes with the original software. The least Adobe could have done is use different examples and include more detail on some of the concepts. Many users of Premiere also get their edition packaged with an editing card and additional plug-in software to enhance Premiere. There is very little help for this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, July 3, 2000
This review is from: Adobe Premiere 5.0 Classroom in a Book (Paperback)
One of the best instructional books I've ever read! Perfect for beginners! The lessons are short and too the point. Explains with easy to follow directions. I spent two straight days reading this book cover to cover. Lessons range from simple editing, to more complex layering and bluescreen techniques. My only gripe is I wish it was longer! Don't get me wrong the book covers everything you could hope to get out of Premiere. I'm looking forward to a volume 2.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst Package I Ever Tried To Work With, September 16, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Adobe Premiere 5.0 Classroom in a Book (Paperback)
Having purchased PhotoShop 5.0 Classroom In A Book and finding it an excellent source, I expected to find the same with Premier 5.0 Classroom In A Book. However, I am unable to complete the lessons. The book itself seems okay so far but the CD has empty file folders and/or missing files. I have tried to work through lessons 3 to 5 without success. The only thing I can do at this time is read the book and not complete the lessons. I could have used another book if all I wanted to do was read. I am severely disappointed in the quality of this package.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this book!, July 8, 2001
This review is from: Adobe Premiere 5.0 Classroom in a Book (Paperback)
This book is amazing! I got it on a friday and by saturday night I had finished it. The book is not short, mind you, I just couldn't put it down. I no trouble with any of the tutorials. I breezed right through them! Not only does it give you training on how to use the software, it also offers tutorials on basic editing techniques. Despite what other reviewers might have said, this book's CD is easy to navigate, I had no trouble finding any of the files, and if you don't know what "fading titles" are you obviously made the wrong decision purchasing this book and the software it refers to. I had a blast with the book and tutorials, and rushed to purchase the AfterEffects Classroom in a Book shortly after reading it.

5.0 out of 5 stars I wish all SW companies wrote books like this!, October 8, 1998

What can I say...Adobe really makes even an all thumbs idiot like me a wiz at this program. I bought their Photoshop 4 Classroom in a book and loved it too.

Of course the book is for learning the basics and a few tricks. I am now ready to buy a book that incorporates After Effects in this program.

But, this book is a most IMHO

4.0 out of 5 stars Not for Novices, March 7, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Adobe Premiere 5.0 Classroom in a Book (Paperback)
Adobe produces excellent products, and Premiere is one of them; however, their technical writers have never really produced outstanding user-level guides for the novice user. (I have previously managed a publications department.) This is true of the user manuals for FrameMaker, Adobe Premiere, and, alas, Classroom in a Book.

Readers with technical background (me) will not have a problem with it. The novice user, however, will be looking for items in the Index that are just not there. Try finding "fading titles" for example ... frequently-used in video editing. Also, much more info could have been supplied regarding the initial setup when opening a project. The wrong choices can produce a variety of problems. This area, plus a better discussion of codecs, is scary to many and could be improved. It is obvious that the writing staff knows the product well ... they just need to convey the info. Adding more "basics" would allow more people to take advantage of the excellent product.

Another minor irritation was the replication of info from the Premiere user manual. I bought this book hoping to find all new info ... to "fill in the gaps" that were present in the user manual. The references to the user manual were appropriate.

I recommend this book for the intermediate-level user and above ... including users switching to Premiere from another NLE package ... but not the "first-time" NLE user.
