The book is a classroom manual designed around sample exercises contained on a CD. However, it ships without the CD. There are good visuals in the book to identify the many features of Premiere, but the exercises aren't especially helpful.

I had played a little with 1.0 but was waiting to take a class on it, becuase the interface is a little much. But 2.0 came out and my school still offers no class on it (or even Premiere), so i tried this. After two versions of this software, I finally made my first movie - with a soundtrack! Pros: It's pretty short and there are projects that take you through the whole book. Not a ton of detail but everythiing was very clear and there was some background on filmmaking tips. And I only spent a few days from start to finish. If I took a class I think I'd still be in week 2. Also I am a huge dog lover and there is some great footage of border collies. Cons: Not a lot of advanced coverage, so if you get through the basics you might want a reference book. But I dont' know if I'll get to that point anyway. Also, there is no Photoshop coverage, which I also have.
