3.0 out of 5 stars Well worth it, but a little out of date
This book is great for the beginner. It will start you out by teaching you the basics of file management and setting up your computer to handle video editing and will lead you through a series of 'projects' to teach you the basics of video editing.

It also includes media with video clips to use in case you don't have any to begin with.

OK, let me cut right to it. I am a very picky student. Having worked as a technical training I expect a lot out of training materials.

A few, but not all, or my expectations are:

* A logical flow from lesson to lesson
* Clear and concise explanations
* Real-work applications
* The trainer demonstrating he/she is not only a subject matter expert, but also a great teacher."
* To have fun and get inspired!
* Lot and lots of value for my money
* Well edited materials

I think the Adobe Press series is great at this, and the shining example in the series at the moment is Premiere Pro 2.0 Studio Techniques by Jacob Rosenberg.

If this sounds like a plug for the author you're right. His materials have gotten me up and running faster than any other training tools I have come across. Honestly.

Trust me when I say if you are using (or plan to use) Premiere you want this book on your shelf. (note: you should also get the Total Training DVD series Jacob hosts. I used 1.5 while learning on 2 and it was great. I know the new version must be even better.

OK, don't trust me. Go to the store and flip through this book. I would bet money you will buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Adobe Premiere Pro 2 book opens the door, January 9, 2007
By
This review is from: Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 Studio Techniques (Paperback)
I have been using Premiere since the days of 5.0 - and I think I have been applying only those same skills to each upgrade I purchased -- with maybe adding just a few new tricks. Mr. Rosenberg's clear explanations and teaching have opened up a whole new world of Premiere editing for me, and my newest DVD effort is showing the results "in spades."

The DVD included is just perfect. Adobe should ship this book with the software.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jacob Rosenberg / Premiere Pro - Perfect Combination!!!!, July 23, 2006
This review is from: Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 Studio Techniques (Paperback)
I started reading Jacob's Rosenberg's training books when I started using Adobe's Premiere Pro 1.5.

His 1.5 book was incredibly helpful during the initial introduction to Premiere's layout, functions, and features.

Then from time to time I reference it for hints and tips on items such as picture in picture editing, color correction, and the like.

With the release of Premiere Pro 2.0, I went right for Jacob's new book as soon as it was available.

Jacob Rosenberg has a unique way to clearly explain the workflow ins and outs of this software in a manner that makes learning it almost as fun as using it!

I use this book, and previously Jacob's 1.5 book, when introducing Premiere Pro 2.0 to fellow editors whether through summer video editing seminars or when working on professional projects.

Thank you Jacob Rosenberg for making this book available. It stands well on its own, and is especially complimentary to your Total Training DVD Series.

This new user guide for Premiere Pro 2.0 is a must-have for editors using the Adobe products. Jacob explains in clear detail every button, setting and feature so you know exactly what's going on. The extra chapters on DVD authoring and encoding HD are especially "juicy"! The bonus included DVD with samples is also very valuable as you work through the tutorials. As a long-time user of Premiere, this newest effort by Jacob has my highest recommendation. Larry Schutte

This book is very good, especially if you have some previous experience with Premiere. The only thing I regret about it, is that there is not a version to cover Premiere CS3 (yet). I am not going to explain any further about this book's qualities since all the other previous positive reviews cover everything already. All I can say is that I can recommend this to anybody who is not a complete novice on Adobe Premiere.

I highly recommend this book to anyone with very little or no Premiere experience.
This book covers all major topics on video editing with PPro. It also gives you an insight in video post production, basic camera setup, lightning and special effects.
I would recommend using this book as a reference, not as step by step guide. Keep practicing.!

3.0 out of 5 stars Well worth it, but a little out of date, October 8, 2007
This review is from: Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 Studio Techniques (Paperback)
This book is great for the beginner. It will start you out by teaching you the basics of file management and setting up your computer to handle video editing and will lead you through a series of 'projects' to teach you the basics of video editing.

It also includes media with video clips to use in case you don't have any to begin with.

It's great book if you have never done any editing, or if you have never done editing with Premiere. Even one version behind on the software version, it is still a very useful book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great resource for Premiere Pro 2.0, November 7, 2006
This review is from: Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 Studio Techniques (Paperback)
This is a very concise manual, well written and printed in full color. I think anyone trying to learn Premiere or just wanting a reference for what's new in 2.0 could not make a better choice than this book. Its great to see an author cover everything so thoroughly, and explain things so well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book and Great Guy, January 9, 2007

This review is from: Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 Studio Techniques (Paperback)
Jacob Rosenberg's Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 Studio Techniques is great whether you're a Premiere newbie, or a seasoned vet.

I myself fall somewhere between those two, so it worked out perfectly. Jacob writes in a way that makes you feel comfortable - you can easily tell he is an avid user of Premiere Pro (not to be confused with an Avid user...video editing humor, anyone?). From his thorough yet laid back instructions to his various real-world examples, it's clear that he's not just authoring a paint-by-numbers look at some new piece of software. Jacob has been with Premiere from it's early stages of life, and in some cases has even had a hand in its evolution.

I specifically wanted this book for its insight on editing workflows, especially in regards to 24p and 24p HD projects in Premiere Pro. The included companion DVD has chapters devoted entirely to his experience onlining the HD feature documentary, Dust to Glory, with Premiere Pro on a PC...so this book was a no-brainer!

I was even able to contact the author himself and meet face to face to discuss the various intricacies of conforming an offline edit to an online all within Premiere Pro for a feature I'm currently working on. He was/continues to be incredibly helpful, and is truly the most knowledgeable person on Premiere Pro that I've ever had the pleasure to meet.

Bottom line, buy this book if you want insight on Premiere Pro.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a book easy to follow, October 9, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 Studio Techniques (Paperback)
Maybe Premiere Pro is too complex for average users, so this book could not cover it all. But I wish the book started by follow one example in steps, the explain in details of some special features in additional chapters.

This book is not organized in a way to teach you how to use the software, rather just some special features, not very complete on all the features, either. But this is the only book about Premiere Pro..
