5.0 out of 5 stars Audition 2.0 on crack
This is basically Audition 2.0 with midi capabilities and VSTi support. The GUI (Graphic User Interface) looks exactly like 2.0, which isn't bad, but I was expecting something more "pretty" like Cubase 4. But, hey, pretty just means the program will be a bigger memory hog, so it's all good.

I've been using this software since CoolEdit1.0! I've always loved...

5.0 out of 5 stars Audition 2.0 on crack, November 13, 2007
This review is from: Audition 3.0 Windows (DVD-ROM)
This is basically Audition 2.0 with midi capabilities and VSTi support. The GUI (Graphic User Interface) looks exactly like 2.0, which isn't bad, but I was expecting something more "pretty" like Cubase 4. But, hey, pretty just means the program will be a bigger memory hog, so it's all good.

I've been using this software since CoolEdit1.0! I've always loved the simplicity of it, and ever since Adobe picked it up, it has gotten better and better. You can't find a better DAW for a home studio. It's quick, fast, and powerful! While it comes with enough effects and tools to do the job, you'll definitely want to pick up some add-ons, like Reason 3.0, GuitarRig 2.0, Ampeg SVX, Absynth, Waves plug-ins, etc.

Yea, sure, you can blow a bunch of money on that memory hog, Cubase 4, and you'll get a bunch of pretty plugins, but why bother? Most of those plugins are useless, the GUI is garbage and horribly complicated to learn, and you need a stupid dongle occupying your USB port to run it. You're better off hand picking the plugins you want and adding them to Audition.

There are so many reasons why Audition 3.0 rocks (mixing and mastering is a breeze!) and I'd love to tell you about it, but I am running out of time. Download the trial and see for yourself!

3.0 out of 5 stars Great for audio; MIDI not so great, December 22, 2008

For pure audio editing tasks, Audition is right on target. The available effects are excellent, as are the various other editing functions. Ease of use is exemplary. Although I commend Adobe for attempting to include a MIDI sequencer/editor as part of the package, this unfortunately is where the program falls far short of expectations. For those wanting to play their VST software instruments along with their audio tracks in real time, the setup process to do so is very confusing, convoluted, and extremely poorly-documented at best -- making it pretty impossible to figure out. MIDI editing is extremely limited. Third party VST effects plugins are virtually useless. For MIDI recording/sequencing/editing, stick to programs such as Cubase and Sonar. So, for the audio editing side of things, definitely five stars. For MIDI integration, two stars. Customer service -- just to simply transfer an authorization to an another computer -- was ATROCIOUS. Both of my experiences with this were nightmares, dealing with "customer service" reps who spoke broken English unintelligibly and as fast as possible -- then were quite rude to me and very sarcastic when I asked them (very politely, I might add) to speak more slowly. That's MINUS one star -- my average:3.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Healing Brush alone makes it worth the purchase price, September 23, 2008
This review is from: Audition 3.0 Windows (DVD-ROM)
I bought this software to help me with my job recording and editing sermons for my church's radio business. Until a few days ago, I had been using Cool Edit 2.0 (and before that, Cool Edit 1.0!) for years. The quick-loading software and no-nonsense interface kept me using it long after more advanced programs had been released. With our recent upgrade in recording hardware, I decided to upgrade my recording software as well. Adobe Audition 3 was the obvious choice, as it is the successor to Cool Edit.

I am happy to say that it retains all of the things that made Cool Edit awesome, while adding a host of excellent new features. The best feature being the Healing Brush. The usefulness of this tool cannot be stressed enough! Being able to literally paint over pops clicks, and other errors, and have the program automatically perform the correction has saved me many hours of frustration. Not only that, but you can also paint over (highlight) specific frequencies apply effects to only those frequencies. This makes removing things like coughing or other background noises a cinch.

These two features alone are worth the cost of upgrading. Even if they were the only new features in the entire program, I would still say: "BUY IT NOW!"

5.0 out of 5 stars A Recording Musicians Perspective, July 21, 2010
This review is from: Audition 3.0 Windows (DVD-ROM)
This product has seen some decent reviews here, and some typical reviews from people who don't seem to have a great deal of computer know-how. I have read lots of reviews from people in the radio business who sing the praises of Adobe Audition, but I haven't seen anyone review this product after having used it as the main brains of their music recording setup. Indeed, you won't even find Adobe Audition listed on Musicians Friend or Guitar Center's websites.

This is really a shame, considering the power contained in this product. I have been using it since the first version of Cool Edit, and I can honestly say I'm not being biased about this. I have tried several other DAWs, namely Sonar, Logic, Pro Tools, and Cubase, and they are all really good, really comprehensive applications. I will not knock a single one of them because they are all great. However, I will knock the fact that Adobe's Audition is not listed among their ranks. As a multitracker and audio editor, Audition is easily as powerful as the rest, and is more intuitive than almost all of them. That is to say, a first time user can typically get started with the program without any coaching or manual surfing.

As a MIDI sequencer, I will concede that Audition has a long way to go, and hopefully this will see vast improvements in future releases, but the wav editing features and flexibility in this program are second to none. If you desire to put together a home studio for recording music, this program should be heavily considered.

You could blow a bunch of money and get a Pro Tools setup, but every audio interface for pro tools under 1k is pretty much crap, when you could just use Audition and spend some cash to get a much more flexible interface. I've contemplated moving to pro tools several times and it's mainly for the prestige of it all, so i always end up staying with audition, because unless everything you do is MIDI based, there is no simpler alternative than this. Admittedly if you do a great deal of work with MIDI, you are better off looking elsewhere, but when I need to do MIDI stuff I just use Reason as a ReWire slave to Audition, and couldn't be happier.

If you are a musician and are looking to have a nice little setup at home, you can't go wrong with Audition.

5.0 out of 5 stars New Radio Network Standard, September 30, 2008
This review is from: Audition 3.0 Windows (DVD-ROM)
I am the Dir. of Eng. for a broadcast radio network. When I took over this position in the last year, the "standard" DAW program was quite antiquated, as was the entire computer network. Some of the employees had used Audition and it's predecessor Cool Edit in the past and were very constrained by the current standard. We will be converting every DAW program to Audition as we upgrade the computers. It has become our new standard DAW program, and is also the suggested DAW for our upcoming automation upgrade. Some who had not ever seen it before had no problems at all making it work for them with little or no coaching.

1.0 out of 5 stars Sucks, September 23, 2009
This review is from: Audition 3.0 Windows (DVD-ROM)
I have been doing commercial radio production for years using CE Pro
and Audition 1.5. Our company just recently purchased vista workstations
and new additions of Adobe Audition 3.0 for us to produce and edit
radio spots.... And i got to say compared to the speed and efficiency
of 1.5 Audition 3.0 totally SUCKS.. It takes about 7 extra steps to do
anything. I'm sure its great for music recording but when your trying to
rip and read spots all day 3.0 is a big fat dead cow. Most of us now just
bring our own laptops in and use 1.5 or Audacity. My average production time
for basic spots was about 5 spots an hour now with 3.0 I'm lucky to
get 1 or 2 spots an hour. When you have quick turn around times and need
to get stuff on the air Audition 3.0 just doesn't cut it. If you have a
lot of time on your hands and a lot of HDD space maybe 3.0 is for you but in
my opinion its by far the worse piece of software Adobe has produced.

5.0 out of 5 stars ADOBE PASSES AUDITION, July 3, 2008
This review is from: Audition 3.0 Windows (DVD-ROM)
I upgraded from Cool Edit Pro 2. The reviews I read about the difference were pretty tepid, but I took the plunge anyway and am SO VERY GLAD I did. First of all, the interface is better. Secondly, work flow is easier. Thirdly, the effects rack is MUCH MUCH better than before. the convolution reverb is amazing, as are the tube compressor and multi-band compressor. I use it for voice work and I am now able to sound so much better even on computer speakers. Highly recommended. I am so happy I didn't 'start over' with pro-tools.

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't even start up, October 22, 2008
This review is from: Audition 3.0 Windows (DVD-ROM)
Adobe Audition was a great program before it was owned by Adobe, when it was called Cooledit. If it works, it has a great and useful set of features. Helas, depending on how your computer is configured, you won't be able to even launch Adobe Audition 3: It will just crash. This problem is known to Adobe for several years, but they didn't bother to correct this bug, or even to answer your emails if you write to them. You can find work-arounds on the Adobe Audition Forums, but don't expect this program to work out of the box. Also, in addition to many other bugs, note that Adobe installs a spyware service (Adobe LM Service) that you can't disable.

Unless you look for a specific feature that only Adobe Audition has, I would recommend that you try to get hold of an old version of CoolEdit, or to try out Audacity, which is free, works, and has no spyware.

5.0 out of 5 stars Audition passes the test, April 9, 2008

This review is from: Audition 3.0 Windows (DVD-ROM)
Our church group purchased this software for making Biblical teachings ready for radio and the web. Although we aren't exactly high tech, we needed something easy to learn and provided professional results.

Audition has lived up to that expectation. And we have had only one minor problem. When we mixdown our tracks to a finished track, and when we try to burn the track with Nero, Nero says the track is corrupt. We have found that the track is a Windows .WAV file with IEEE Float. We are trying to find the right file format for Nero.

Other than that we are happy with Audition.

4.0 out of 5 stars Adobe Audition 3 Good not Great, March 8, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Audition 3.0 Windows (DVD-ROM)
I purchased Adobe Audition 3 because I need a multitrack sound editor in my work with videos. I use Adobe CS3 Master Suite that comes with Soundbooth CS3, but Soundbooth does not have a multitrack interface. Audition also has more extensive effects and does everything that Soundbooth does. I expected that Audition 3 would be integrated with Premier Pro CS3, After Effects CS3, and Adobe Bridge CS3 just like Soundbooth is; so I was very surprised when I could not open Audition from Premier Pro CS3 or After Effects CS3, and had to search for the Audition Program on Bridge CS3 instead of getting it from right-clicking the sound file I wanted to open. One of the nice features of Adobe software is being able to open Adobe programs within other Adobe programs to do specialized edits. Unfortunately, this is not possible with Adobe CS3 and Audition 3. A minor inconvenience with Audition 3 is that the Help File is all web-based, so if your video/audio workstation is not connected to the internet there is no stand-alone Help File. On all of the CS3 software the Help files are part of the disk-based software and can be also accessed on the internet. Adobe Auditon 3 is an excellent multitrack sound editor, but if I did not need it now or if I was thinking about upgrading, I would wait until Adobe integrates Audition and creates a disk-based Help File.
