Dr. Leman's book is a down-to-earth handbook for parents navigating the difficult waters of adolescence. He doesn't mince words, and he backs up his advice with studies and his own experience as a family counselor. I found his advice right on the mark for dealing with my 14-year-old as well as my 12-year-old, although they have very different personalities. I bought a copy for future reference after reading the library's copy and loaning it to several friends. Those library fines can really add up!

"Adolescene Isn't Terminal" by Kevin Leman is full of interesting insights and conclusions on how parents can survive the teenage years. Leman covers such topics as;

1. Do not be overly controlling of your teenagers - give them room to make mistakes and learn from them.
2. Dating
3. Sex
4. Peer pressure
5. Other pressures teens have to deal with
6. Hassles of everyday life
7. Parents should not sacrifice their teens for a "succesful" career. They need us particularly during this time. This chapter was my personal favorite.

All in all, the advice and insights were very helpful and encouraging.

Read and enjoy. Highly recommended!

This is actually the second copy of this book I bought; it is so good that I gave it to a friend of mine that is dealing with issues with her teen. I found it very helpful, and I learned alot of things that I was doing with my son were actually intensifying his adolescent-stage rebellion. It was also a breath of fresh air knowing that I'm not the only one dealing with these issues. I suggest reading this book...there IS hope; adolescence is NOT terminal!

Our kids are later teens but still thoroughly enjoyed the book and have recommended to several and passed it onto a grandparent that will be helping raise their grandson. Wish we would have had this book about 5 years ago, but great advice even now! Thank you Dr. Leman for teaching us through your experences, and letting us know we arn't crazy its all just part of the of the wild "raft ride" of parenting!!
