About the Author

Harriet D. Porton earned her undergraduate degree at Towson State University and her M. Ed in at-risk education at Goucher College. She has taught every level from 1st grade through graduate school but has spent the majority of her teaching career working with at-risk high school students. Currently M. Porton is an adjunct faculty member for Goucher College Graduate Programs in Education and serves as the Coordinator for Reconstitution-Eligible Schools for the Maryland State Department of Education. She has presented at numerous national conferences regarding at-risk youth, had several articles and a monograph published, and was a contributing writer and editor for the sixth edition of Rolf Muuss' Theories of Adolescence (1996).
