Book Description

Adolescence is one of the most turbulent yet exciting phases in life. Increased autonomy brings with it new health risks ranging from drugs and sexually transmitted disease, to eating disorders and suicidal depression. Even though todays teenagers are more concerned with and educated about their health than any previous generation, they still engage in risky behaviour.

Adolescent Health explores how individual differences contribute to health and illness across a wide range of cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. Patrick Heaven blends the latest research findings from a range of sources with practical suggestions on how to improve health care services for adolescents. Adolescent Health will prove valuable to professionals working with young people, social science students and parents.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Throughout, ideas are clearly expressed and well-illustrated with current research material. The book should prove helpful for all those working with young people, whether as professionals or voluntary, and would also be worthwhile for students of psychology." --This text refers to the Kindle Edition edition.

Heaven has produced a book that really is must reading for those studying social psychology and those who have an interest in why adolescents behave the way they do. With simple yet eloquent language Heaven takes us through a gamut of issues adolescents face and explains the behaviours that often puzzle those who work with adolescents. From body image to mental health, the author has compiled the very best in empirical research to support his arguments and ideas. The book will open your mind to why adolescents behave as they do.
