Ginger K. Breedlove has been involved in maternity nursing for 25 years and in nurse-midwifery for more than 18 years. She is Director of Nurse-Midwife Associates at St. Lukes-Shawnee Mission Health System in Kansas City, Missouri and senior nurse-midwife faculty at the University of Kansas School of Nursing, Nurse-Midwifery Education Program. Her research interests are adolescent pregnancy, social support, and hope. Her nursing experience includes establishing a free-standing birthing center, creating the first certified nurse-midwife (CNM) practice in Kansas City, and authoring more than $1 million in grants to provide maternity care and womens health services to underserved women and families. She serves on several national committees within the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) and has lectured extensively, nationwide, on community-based adolescent pregnancy programs for the March of Dimes. She received the March of Dimes Graduate Nursing Scholarship in 1998. Her memberships include ACNM, Sigma Theta Tau, the Association of Womens Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses, and other professional community organizations.

Ann M. Schorfheide has an educational, clinical, and teaching background in community/public health nursing and nurse-midwifery. She is Associate Professor of Nursing and the founding director of the Nurse-Midwifery Education Program Director at the University of Kansas School of Nursing. Her research interest and activities are in health promotion, adolescent risk behavior, and adolescent pregnancy, and she is currently undertaking an historical study of nurse-midwifery in Kansas and the midwest. She facilitated the $1.3 million federal grant that funded the establishment of the Kansas Collaborative Bistate Nurse-Midwifery Education Program at the University of Kansas School of Nursing and orchestrated the programs' successful preaccreditation process. In the mid-1970s, she and a midwife colleague established one of the country's first MD/CNM private practices. She served as a contributor and presenter for the March of Dimes Nursing Roundtable on Adolescent Pregnancy and Parenthood; this group subsequently published Adolescent Pregnancy: Nursing Perspectives on Prevention (1991), part of the March of Dimes Original Article Series. Her professional membership and involvement includes work in the American Nurses Association, the Kansas State Nurses Association, the American College of Nurse-Midwives, the American Public Health Association, the Association of Community Health Nursing Educators, the Midwest Nursing Research Society, and Sigma Theta Tau International. She also serves on the boards of several local/regional health-related institutions and community organizations. Dr. Schorfheide received the University of Kansas Chancellors Distinguished Professor of Nursing Award in 1994, and the Kansas State Nurses Association, District II, Nurse of the Year Award in 2000. She is a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.
