5.0 out of 5 stars Little-known, but exceptional study!
This book first appeared in 1973 and never achieved wide circulation or got much ink. 1.0 out of 5 stars Trebonics, Inc. sucks
The rating applies to the supposed supplier, Trebonics, Inc.; not the book. The book was ordered November 16 with notification of shipment within a week. The book never arrived. LESSON LEARNED: Beware of ordering anything that will supposedly be supplied by Trebonics, Inc!!

This is probably because Robert Payne's infantile "Life and Death of Adolf Hitler" appeared the same year and garnered the lion's share of fanfare. This is a pity because Colin Cross produced one of the most readable, accurate and underrated books written about Hitler in the past thirty years.

I highly recommend this book to all students of Hitler. Whether you're a neophyte or a seasoned veteran, there is a plethora of interesting, memorable material in the book. I recently re-read it for the first time in 25 years and was amazed at how good the book has remained. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars a monster but also human, February 3, 2012

This review is from: Adolf Hitler (Paperback)
i read this book in 1974. i had never read any thing about hitler in book form before.when i first opened the book,i half expected hitler to jump out of the pages and chase me down the street with a butcher knife. what i found was a demonic genious that was more than a man screaming into a microphone at thousands of people with his hair hanging over his forehaed.the man loved art,the theater and might have made a good movie director if events had turned in another direction. the book moved along smoothly.i wish someone would understand that there is a difference between a bunker and a shelter-but that is alright-we get the meaning.i liked robert payne's work on hitler as well-even though i doubt if a young hitler visited alois,jr.in england.but going back to colin cross-he deserves praise for his book-----richard bennett-fitzgerald,ga
