Book Description

10 and up5 and upChristian Heroes: Then & Now
As America's first foreign missionary, Adoniram Judson thirsted to see the Good News brought to the shrouded land of Burma. His thirst would be quenched, but at an unimaginable price. Adoniram survived starvation, imprisonment, and torture both on land and at sea only to watch his family, coworkers, and friends succumb to death.

In spite of heartache and depression, Adoniram Judson translated the entire Bible into Burmese. To this day his work remains the only Burmese translation of the Bible available. Adoniram and his first wife Ann were the spark that spread the fire of the Gospel into Burma, and their evident love for the Burmese people is a compelling story of unswerving dedication and sacrifice.

5.0 out of 5 stars A major perspective..., November 16, 2005

This review is from: Adoniram Judson: Bound for Burma (Christian Heroes: Then & Now) (Paperback)
This book casts a long shadow-historically speaking. Adoniram's work is the only translated Bible in the Burmese language today. His life was an amazing adventure filled with the pain of loss and the victory of seeing the Holy spirit open doors. You will do yourself a favor to read this book. I loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yay for this book!, August 25, 2008
This review is from: Adoniram Judson: Bound for Burma (Christian Heroes: Then & Now) (Paperback)
This book is written in a way that older children could read it, but so could an older person, and both would enjoy it.

So inspiring!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!, September 14, 2011
This review is from: Adoniram Judson: Bound for Burma (Christian Heroes: Then & Now) (Paperback)
Bound for Burma, is the enrapturing story of Adoniram Judson by Janet and Geoff Benge. In 230 pages we follow Adoniram's life in awe of how Christ brings all things to good.

This story takes place in Plymouth, Burma, Providence Rhode Island, and many other places. You will travel with Adoniram as he goes to college, runs away to NY, comes home and gets saved, fights through trials and many narrow escapes.

After his salvation, God puts it on his heart that he is to be the first foreign missionary to Burma. While trying to gain permission and support, Adoniram meets Ann Hasseltine. He wants to marry her, but will she be willing to give up her luxuries and family for him, and go to Burma?

Adoniram Judson translated the entire Bible into Burmese. It remains to this day the only translation into their native tongue.

I greatly encourage you to read this book. It will bring you closer to God and you will learn many historical facts.
