The right "Shift" key on the keyboard is non-standard and is *awkward* for touch typing.

I had purchased the Adonit Writer Plus for the new iPad after eagerly waiting for it to be restocked in Amazon.

Within a few days of use, the Adonit Writer Plus case will not switch off my new iPad upon closure. I wrote to Adonit Customer Service and was attended by a staff ([ ...] ) based in Taiwan. Apparently, this company does business from Taiwan instead of U.S.

Prior to returning the product, i made this video showing that the case does not send my iPad to sleep mode at all. As shown on the video, there is still light emitting even after closure. I sent the video to Adonit's [ ... ] who promptly advised me to send it back in.

I just received an e-mail from them, and i quote "The case may be with your iPad in its magnetic sensitivity. We will send the Writer case back to you and you may explore options with the reseller on your next step". So instead of them accepting that their product is faulty, they make you pay for International Shipping Charges to ship the faulty item to Taiwan, which is rather costly and refused to acknowledge that the item is faulty despite video evidence.

This experience with Adonit has been frustrating to say the least and i will strongly advise everyone to beware of this Taiwanese company.

Update (5th July): [ ... ] of Adonit sent me a replacement cover after a few exchanges. The replacement worked and sent my iPad to sleep mode when closed. Therefore i can conclude that the fault does not lie with my iPad. It is regrettable that I had to argue with them before they relented and send me the replacement.

I bought this upon the recommendation of a friend and was not disappointed in the product. I was well aware I wasn't getting a full keyboard like on my laptop or for my tower. That being said, the keyboard has been very helpful and I love the ability to sit the whole thing up on a table, desk, or even my lap to work on my iPad. It comes in really handy for replying to emails, updating documents, etc. I really don't use the detachable feature much but it is handy when needed. Unlike other reviews, the case does turn my iPad off when laid down flat. I do notice that sometimes it will not shut it down if I it is vertical (being held) but since I am aware of that I adjust and don't have any problems.

I am also a pastor who uses his iPad during the sermon. The Adonit does have some drawbacks as it is a little large for the pulpit so I use a different case for when I do sermons. However, I don't consider this a negative for the device because I doubt it was designed with that in mind. Just something to think about for those who may want to use this at pulpit, lectern, etc.

If I could suggest one improvement it would be to make it where the keyboard attaches better to the case itself. Not sure how this could be done but something that would allow the keyboard to be attached to the case and unattached when desired. Again, considering the technology and how nicely this device works for me it is not a complaint.

After much research on keyboard/cases for the new iPad i decided on the Adonit and I'm happy I did. The keyboard is solid with a similar feel to a Mac without that clanky keyboard sound of some of the others I tried like the Logitech. The case is light, a huge plus as is the detachable keyboard unlike the popular Zagg case that my friends have.

I highly recommend this keyboard/folio for new IPad users. The Adonit's ligthweight case, comfortable and quiet keyboard along with detachable keyboard make it functionally awesome for folks on the go.

I have been issued this keyboard from work. I am currently on my 3rd one in a under a year. The first one had the case shrivel up from sitting in direct sunlight for awhile. The second one had the plastic around the iPad break so it could no longer hold the iPad. The third one is now on it's last legs. The plastic is cracking as well. One of my staff got one of these and it literally broke the first time the iPad was inserted into the case. Because they break so easily I can only give it one star. The keyboard works well and functions nicely but becomes worthless when it breaks. Hope this helps you in your search.

I tried the Zagg keyboard but didn't like how the edge of the keyboard case kept brushing against my palm. I've had my Adonit keyboard for over a year and it has been great. The battery-operated keyboard seemed so old school when I first got this but it has turned out to be great. Unlike the Zagg keyboard which has to be charged by a micro usb port, it's really great how long the batteries last. I think i've changed the batteries out maybe 4-5 times since I got the keyboard over a year ago. I have the original ipad, for which there are only two models of keyboards with cases that I know of. And I think this is the better of the two.

This took a little adjusting for me, as I always used a slightly thicker folio that offered a bit more padding. However, I think the tradeoff with ruggedness is well worth the incredible thinness you get with this case.

I also like how easy it is to take the iPad out of the case completely. When I'm at home just reading, it is far more comfortable to just hold the iPad "naked" and truly take advantage of the thinness and weight of the device. I never did this with my older cases because it was too cumbersome to remove and reinstall the case. This one just pops in and out with ease.

The case won't be for everyone, but despite my initial hesitations about the non-traditional design, I have come to love it. I type a ton more on the iPad (which means more productivity for me) with this thing on and I've yet to go back to my old case. If you don't do much typing, you should skip this case (but that should be obvious, no?) but for those that do, this is the way to go.
