Book Description

November 16, 2006
From the Author of Adopting A Toddler, Denise Hoppenhauer brings you Adopting a Daughter from China. Written for first time parents, the practical advice offered here combines the challenging aspects of parenthood, with personal experience and the unique needs of adoptive families.

This easy to read, book covers every aspect of adopting from China: preparing the nursery, changing a name, the baby wardrobe, child development, selecting a pediatrician, child safety, feeding baby, the wait, packing for your trip, travel to China, early days together, pre and post-adoption resources, and more.

“Even better than the first, the combination of Denise’s research and experience as an adoptive parent makes Adopting a Daughter from China, a must read for first time parents.”
Mary Mooney,

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible editing, September 17, 2009
This review is from: Adopting a Daughter from China (Paperback)
I cannot finish reading this book. I am about halfway through, but the editing is so bad, and the errors so abundant, that I cannot force myself to continue. I suppose that some of the information I have gotten out of the book so far has been decent, although I have not found anything "earth-shattering" that I had not already learned from other sources. The grammatical errors (such as putting commas in place of periods, or punctuation where it simply doesn't belong, confusing "there" with "their", incomplete sentences, etc.) were so annoying and distracting to me that I had to force myself to continue reading, but after several chapters I found that I tired of forcing myself to read something that was not helping me in any way and gave up. I would recommend that you save your money, and your time. There are plenty of good books out there on China adoption; this is not one of them.

If you've read Adopting a Toddler - What Size Shoes Does She Wear? you'll quickly recognize the same format, and many of the same paragraphs, verbatim.

I was disappointed to discover that the author HAS NOT ADOPTED FROM CHINA. Her adoptions were both from Eastern Europe. Although she provides some China-specific information, it's not from personal experience.

You can really tell what her sensitive issues are, too. It could be written more objectively in some areas.

2.0 out of 5 stars disappointed, December 15, 2011

Out of date material, and bad editing. Did not even finish the book. It was very general information, in my opinion, not information from someone who had been there, done that. I think I actually know more myself than the author.
