Editorial Reviews

Review

Adoption is an eternal way families have been created, across all cultures and across all times, although it often is more an informal process than a formal one. In Adoption: Stories of Lives Transformed, The Adoption Exchange provides snapshots from individual lives and reminds of the elemental powers---love, forgiveness, hope---that these new families possess. --Neely Tucker, reporter for the Washington Post and author of Love in the Driest Season, which chronicles his and his wife's journey to adopt a Zimbabwe orphan.

The powerful stories and reflections of the children and adults whose lives have been miraculously transformed through adoption and the work of The Adoption Exchange are an inspiration to all of us who have been touched by adoption and continue to work daily to make forever families a reallity for children. --Honorable Karen A. Howze, Magistrate Judge and adoptive mother of three children from the American foster care system.

5.0 out of 5 stars Transforming the Reader, Too, January 26, 2008

This review is from: Adoption: Stories Of Lives Transformed (Hardcover)
The stories of lives transformed by adoption in this book are the most heartwarming imaginable. The Adoption Exchange in Denver specializes in "special needs" adoptions - children who are physically, mentally, and emotionally handicapped. Some are the result of birth defects, others of abuse by unfit parents, or perhaps years in uncaring foster homes. The stories are written by adoptive parents and siblings, and by the children themselves. There must be a special place in Heaven for these adoptive parents, many of whom already have large families but have opened their hearts to children who need them desperately. In one touching story, parents take home an infant they know is dying. Their mission is to love that child for the short time he has on Earth. Another story is by a young man who prayed for years to be adopted, updating his "resume" every few years after he learned to write. Ultimately he aged out of the foster care system still unadopted, but he wanted everyone at Adoption Exchange to know that, even though he will always be sad about this, his life has turned out well. A lovely book for anyone who has ever loved a child or wanted to be loved.
