From Booklist
Gr. 7-12. Students doing research on issues related to adoption, or adoptees seeking information on recent changes in the law, will appreciate this readable book. Following a brief history of adoption, Weiss discusses nontraditional adoption (interracial, interfaith, gay and lesbian), international adoption, and changing attitudes on such aspects as open adoption and searches for birth parents. Her perspective on adoption is overwhelmingly positive (especially when she contrasts it with the foster care system), but she does offer information on the adoption black market and the problems of Internet adoptions. Extensive source notes, a bibliography, including young adult fiction titles about adoption, and a step-by-step account of the adoption process are provided. Readers will need to look elsewhere for Internet resources and listings of contact organizations. Chris Sherman
