5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great
It's silent, comfortable in the hand, and the build quality is outstanding. Truly a high-quality product that matches the fit and finish of a Nikon dslr. It plugs into the gps port on the Nikon D90. Press it halfway down, and the autofocus is engaged. Press it all the way down, and it trips the shutter. It's a very dependable shutter cord that I can fully recommend.

Really small, light and fits well in the hand. Well built. I would really recomend this to anyone looking for a shutter cable. Works with Nikon D5000.

3.0 out of 5 stars A confusing mess..., February 28, 2011

I purchased this remote from Amazon a little while ago and it works fine. I just looked at the entry this morning in preparation for writing a favorable review and see that what's pictures is different from what I bought and the price has doubled.

I think what's happening is that different off-shore plants are making these and looking at any review is likely to get you feedback for something that is at least cosmetically different from what you will get.

Inside, all the inexpensive corded remotes are essentially the same thing. Two metal "fingers" that actuate the half-press and full press shutter functions. They all also allow sliding the switch upwards (once it's been fully depressed) to keep the shutter open.

My suggestion is to make sure the remote you order has a cord that's long enough (3 feet is good), has a low total cost (price plus shipping), and the merchant accepts returns for defective merchandise (always true for Amazon, not necessarily so for Marketplace sellers).

In the end, the remote I got, which was ordered from this page and a little different from the one pictured, works just fine!

BTW, I feel that honest, effective reviews take the place of first-hand experiences that are lacking in online shopping. I've always appreciated the help I've gotten from other reviewers and continue to return the favor as best as I can. If you thought this review was helpful please let me know by clicking on "Yes" button where it asks. If there was anything you thought was lacking or unclear leave a comment and I'll do what I can to fix it.

4.0 out of 5 stars 2nd one works, August 1, 2010

The first one I ordered didn't work upon arrival. Not upset as you must expect sometimes you will get a defective part. More impressed by the company that sold it to replace the defective unit with one that does work. And they did in a timely manner. This second one now works perfectly. Construction of the clone remote release cord is not the same as paying more for the name-brand but I bought it knowing that. Hope this one will last.

1.0 out of 5 stars False Advertisement!, January 28, 2011

This review is from: Adorama Remote Release Cord for the Nikon D90/D5000/D7000 Digital SLR Cameras, 3 Feet Long (Electronics)
This remote release cord is NOT made by Flashpoint/Adorama as it is advertised, it is made by Meike.

Although it does work and do what it should, I would also like to point out that there is also NOT a 3 position switch as it is advertised, it is a two position switch.
The button in the middle acts as a shutter release button similar to the one on the camera. If you hold it down half way, it will meter and focus the shot (if you have autofocus on), and if you press a little harder... it will take the picture. There is no third position just to do focusing, you could easily take the picture while meaning to focus, and the second position is only a lock used for exposures where the shutter is held for an extreme amount of time.

In the future, i will be reluctant to purchase anything with Adorama's "Flashpoint" brand name on it, ever again.

But if you are looking for a cheaply manufactured, small, light, plastic, shutter release cord with nothing more than the basic lock and shutter release button on it... this may fit your needs.

I added two pictures to accompany my review in the product images section.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not on my Nikon D7000, March 3, 2011

This review is from: Adorama Remote Release Cord for the Nikon D90/D5000/D7000 Digital SLR Cameras, 3 Feet Long (Electronics)
Please do not use this remote on a Nikon D7000 camera. Here is my experience. The plug was very difficult to insert into the camera (although it's said to be compatible with the Nikon D7000). The remote worked fine once plugged in. But, when I attempted to unplugged it, the metal contact broke off and stuck in the camera. I had to use a plier to gently pry the metal piece loose. Needless to say, I returned this product and spent the extra dollars for Nikon's Remote.

Caution!!! You may not want to try this on a new camera.

If you do any tripod work, especially closeup, you should have this. However, if you work with extremely long exposures its almost a must have. I used it to get closeups that required long exposures so I could maintain an acceptable depth of field focus. It did the job.

My first wired remote was an aftermarket brand that actually broke inside of the remote plug. This one just works, fits the way it should and is well built.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it! Absolutely love it!, May 4, 2011

I use this on my Nikon D5000 camera. It almost works like the remotes for my film cameras. Dependable. Easy to attach and remove. Did i mention dependable? There is a very nice difference between this one and the ones for my film cameras. I can leave the remote in place and still use the regular shutter release when I take the camera off the tripod for a shot. Can't do that with the old-style releases that attach to the shutter button.

It installs easily and works great with the Nikon D5000. Only caution, be careful when pushing the button. If you tend to slide your thumb when pressing something you will have to break the habit.

I usually run a video camera and a still camera while shooting events. This allows me to set the camera to where I expect to take the next shot and not have to worry about the time delay cutting out the remote operation like the wireless release does. Also, I don't have to be using the remote from in front of the camera like I do with the wireless remote.

Only down side is I wish you could add an extension or get one with a longer cord. But not worth taking off part of a star for.

I've compared with the official Nikon remote control, and the construction are better in Nikon. But this Adorama RC is cheaper and do the job... If you need an RC and don't want to spend money, this is your RC.

I would recommend this product for everyone :)
