4.0 out of 5 stars Not deep - but good, easy beach read
If you are looking for an deep character novel - look elsewhere. If you are looking for a good beach book, this could be the one.
The main character is easy to hate/love/hate/love (you get the picture). Predictable? Maybe - with a few twists along the way.
After I finished the book, I did not wish for the time back. Actually, I finished it wanting more.

3.0 out of 5 stars Average and kind of boring
I picked up this book looking for an escapist read. Based on the book's description, I expected that if anything, it would lean towards the sleazy side. Instead, I was surprised to find that I was actually pretty bored.

The story line should have been fairly intersting, but I was never in a hurry to get back to it and find out what happens next. I kept...

5.0 out of 5 stars Jackie Collins for a whole new generation!, December 2, 2005
This review is from: Adored (Hardcover)
For those of us who read Jackie Collins but hate waiting years for a new JC book to come out, this book is the one for you! From the first page through the last, you will find lots of sex, dirty language, hollywood gossip, back stabbing, trials and tribulations and a very comfortable ending. For those of us that like to get away from our daily routine and just read a book for the fun of it, give this new writer a try! I don't think you will be dissapointed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Average and kind of boring, May 12, 2006

I picked up this book looking for an escapist read. Based on the book's description, I expected that if anything, it would lean towards the sleazy side. Instead, I was surprised to find that I was actually pretty bored.

The story line should have been fairly intersting, but I was never in a hurry to get back to it and find out what happens next. I kept reading for lack of other book options, but I definetly wouldn't call it a page turner - not even a decent "shallow" beach read.

Overall, I felt Adored just lacked spark and energy. The best way I can think to describe it is like a soap opera narrated in a journalist style - the characters and plot line were scandalous, but it lacked juiciness. It would be like a New York Times writer submitting an article to a grocery store tabloid - mismatched.

Overall, it's a decently interesting read, but ultimately pretty forgettable.

1.0 out of 5 stars I Can't Believe It Got Published, June 8, 2006
This review is from: Adored (Mass Market Paperback)
While the book is a mindless summer beach read, the horrible story structure, grammar, and lack of editing makes one think it is actually a hoax perpetrated by Warner books. New York Times best sellers list? I have seen 7th grade essays written more proficiently than the 725-page drone that concludes with the last two paragraphs discussing horse [...]. Give me a freaking break.

1.0 out of 5 stars Adorably Trite, December 28, 2005

I hauled the thick heavy hardcover book from my local library, thinking this was first tier literature. Ok,let me not lie, I was thinking sleazy Jackie Collins. What I got was an uneccessarily lengthy novel, with an unbelievebly thin plotline.

Let me start by saying..I love to read, I read 2 to 3 books a week, most of them in a day or two. This book has taken me 2 weeks to finish. There really is no character development to speak of. The players go from hating each other, to rolling around naked on the floor in under a 1/3 of a page. The writing seems forced, there is no chemistry between the players, and the whenever the author seemed lost as how to proceed, she jumps several years into the future. You really have no clue where you are. A total waste of time and money. Normally I give authors a second chance..this author..never again!

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVED IT!, July 12, 2006

This review is from: Adored (Mass Market Paperback)
After reading the other reviews for this book, I realized that you either love this book... or hate it.

I loved it.

I couldn't believe so many people disliked it! I could not put this book down the entire time I had it. I love the way Bagshawe presents several different stories, that eventually come together in the end.

I strongly reccomend this book. I absolutely loved it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too Melodramatic. A third-rate soap opera., July 5, 2006
This review is from: Adored (Hardcover)
Beginning with the fact that the book is based on a famous Hollywood family of dysfunctional actors and movie producers, just gives you an idea of the parallel universe out there, and even though we know fairly well about such parallel universes, it's just impossible to like and commiserate with such a spoiled, egocentric, self absorbed and immature character as Bagshawe's leading lady.
I swear I wanted to scream while I was reading, I just couldn't take it anymore!!!!!!! And my God, these people suffer such tragedies are so utterly out of touch with their inner self that you just want to drop the story.
I honestly thought of throwing the book away or just leaving it somewhere to be forgotten but as a rule I never leave anything (much less books) unfinished so I had to take it until the very end. It finally came though. Don't get it if you value a good read.

2.0 out of 5 stars Kama Sutra By The Numbers, October 5, 2006
This review is from: Adored (Hardcover)

Despite what Ms. Bagshawe's agent thinks, Tilly is not the next Nora Roberts. Her sex scenes are more like "Kama Sutra By The Numbers" than they are sensuous; her emotional descriptions leave the reader flat ("Siena was scared sh**less") and her physical descriptions are more hygienic than descriptive.

Even so, I read it from page 1 to page 500-something and was enthralled wondering what evil, selfish and nasty things the characters were up to. It was always "what comes next?".

In some prurient way, I quite enjoyed it...but I will not run out to buy Ms. Bagshawe's next effort.
