SNAKE SKIN (A Lucy Guardino FBI Thriller) - CJ Lyons
A loving mom and wife, consummate professional, and kick-ass federal agent, Lucy Guardino is living the perfect life. Until she comes up against a predator more vicious and cunning than any she's tackled before. Now Lucy must choose between the life of the young victim she's fighting to save and that of her own daughter.

POST (A Byron Tibor Thriller) - Sean Black
Exhausted by combat and haunted by ghosts from his past, nothing will stop special forces veteran Byron Tibor from returning home to the woman he loves. Not even the American government hot on his tail. But nothing -- from the Hindu Kush to Manhattan, or the underbelly of the Las Vegas Strip to his very life -- is what it seems.

After serving 5 years for involuntary manslaughter she can't remember, the only work ex-CSI Kelly Jacks can get is crime-scene cleaner. But old habits die hard, and her instincts tell her a routine suicide is anything but. Someone doesn't want her asking questions, and Kelly is soon on the run from police, Russian thugs, and gangsters.

THE WORLD BENEATH (A Joe Tesla Novel) - Rebecca Cantrell
Joe Tesla is a software millionaire trapped in the subway tunnels under New York City by his mental illness. There he uncovers FDR’s presidential train car and a conspiracy going back to World War II. But can he conquer his own inner demons to save the very world he fears to tread? (A 2014 International Thriller Writer's Award Nominee!)

KISS HER GOODBYE (A Fourth Dimension Thriller) - Robert Gregory Browne
In a ruthless act of revenge by a charismatic madman, ATF Agent Jack Donovan's daughter, Jessie, is kidnapped and buried alive, with barely enough oxygen to sustain her. Now the only man who can save her, the only man who knows where to find her has just been shot dead -- and the clock is ticking...

THE DESTROYED (A Jonathan Quinn Novel) - Brett Battles
Mila Voss is dead. Now those who paid for her elimination want to know why she just showed up on a hotel’s security camera in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Jonathan Quinn, one of the best cleaners in the business and the man tasked with the disposal of her body, should know -- but he doesn't seem to be in a sharing mood.

"THE THIEF" (Short Story) - Gregg Hurwitz
When a mentally challenged teen with a penchant for stealing is framed for murdering his mother, relying on his innate talent may be the only way to outwit the real killer.

4.0 out of 5 stars CJ Lyons Snakeskin is commanding! May 4, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Author CJ Lyons shows her command of the craft in Snake Skin, the story of Supervisory Special Agent of the FBI Lucy Guardino heads the Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement Squad/Crimes Against Children (SAFES/CAC) detail in Pittsburgh. Published by Create Space and released January 19, 2011, Snake Skin shows an artist at her best. The characters are detailed and rooted in reality, the plot tense, gripping and rapidly paced.

Lucia Theresa Guardino was recently promoted and moved her family from Virginia to Pittsburgh. As if the stress of her job and the efforts of trying to insulate her family from the realities of her what she does and sees everyday aren’t enough her daughter, Megan, 12, doesn’t plan to let her Mom off easy for uprooting her and making her leave her home and friends. Ahh, but then there’s her handsome patient husband psychologist Nick Callahan who is never knocked off his stride.

Lucy’s newest investigation is the disappearance of 14 year old Ashley Yeager from the home she shares with her image conscious divorced mother. She understands the Ashley would want to leave a life where you felt like a stranger to your own cold parents—they don’t know anything about her life they’re so self-centered. But did she leave of her own accord or was she forced?

As Lucy traces Ashley’s steps and activities for clues she also must deal with feeling like a stranger to her own family, much like Ashley must, a ruthless and devious reporter who will go to any lengths to get her story and the local law enforcement agencies who want to be in the spotlight as much as they want to solve the case.

5.0 out of 5 stars Snake Skin Will Give You Goose Bumps! May 5, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I haven't read all of the other books in the set but Snake Skin is a must read.

From the first page to the last, a fan of a good mystery with suspense, thrills, and breath taking action you will find Snake Skin by C. J. Lyons is a story with everything. Lyons is an author who goes out of her way to deliver a story that has been researched and then put her knowledge in her story. The story is face paced and full of twists and turns making this a story that is totally captivating. Lyons does a great job of giving fans characters they will never get enough of.

I read Lyons Snake Skin almost two years ago as I was looking for a new and interesting author. When snake skin downloaded to my Kindle and I started reading I knew I had found an author that I would all of her books Lyons has continues to make Lucy Guardino one of the best FBI agents characters in a great series. Snake Skin is book one of the Guardino series/ She does a great job developing the main character Lucy and her family, husband Nick and daughter Megan, Lyons helps us understand who Lucy is and what her strengths and weaknesses are. This being my first read of Lyon's I was pleased that I was never sure of how the book was going to end. At the time I read Snake Skin for the first time I was thrilled at the ending and knew there would be more Lucy books. No spoilers allowed but you need too read all of the Lucy books to see what a dedicated FBI agent with a family deals with each day. This book is a must read even today as well as the books that follow. My 5 star rating was earned two years ago and well as it is earned today.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review for "The Destroyed" by Brett Battles May 3, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I love reading Brett Battles novels. They are page-turners, gripping, and always deliver. This one is no exception. I'm a fan through and through.

If you're new to Battles, I would start at the beginning with Becoming Quinn. And all of his other series of books are great, too.

The Destroyed moves quickly and keeps you intrigued. I highly recommend!

I bought the box set because of Brett Battles book. The Destroyed is one of my favorite in the Jonathan Quinn series. Probably because part of the setting is in Thailand. I've been to Thailand several times and can speak and understand some Thai. I can tell Brett Battles really knows the country and its culture. The story is captivating. One of those books that once you pick up you can't put it down until you finish it. It also shows the human side of Quinn, not just a lean, mean killing machine.

5.0 out of 5 stars The World Beneath"......... May 9, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I have read Rebecca Cantrell's "the World Beneath" and I am a huge fan of this talented writer's work. If the rest of the books in this group are half as good as that, this has got to be an exciting offer.
The World Beneath - From the first page with the romantic notion of a secret train built to carry FDR into the dark, mysterious underground of New York, the World Beneath plays with the reader’s sense of time and place. I found the first few pages reminiscent of Atlas Shrugged whose use of trains and tunnels evoked an earlier time in history. But make no mistake, this is a novel for our time and uniquely so.

I was amused by the author’s choice of names for the main character, Tesla, and his sidekick, his dog Edison. There is a vague reference to Tesla’s relationship to his namesake but of course the reader will recognize the irony in pairing the names of the two companions, as in real life, Nikola Tesla was a brilliant Serbian inventor of AC current and a contemporary and rival of Thomas Edison.

The concept of a character whose entire story needs to unfold underground because he is suffering from agoraphobia and is therefore afraid to leave the “comforts” of the tunnels beneath New York, is a brilliant literary device. To have the character suffer from synesthesia was also an interesting choice, but those flashes of color which Tesla sees instead of numbers seem to provide a light at the end of the tunnel as it were.

Cantrell did a wonderful job of creating an acute sense of tension driven by Tesla’s inability to leave the underground as he tries to escape his pursuers. Her use of the location was masterful and using language that was sparse but descriptive, she is able to paint a rich picture of what the underground caverns of New York must be like.
