Book Description

June 1, 1998
Adrian Plass's unique perspective on life and faith can be enjoyed once more in this omnibus edition of three of his best-selling books. In The Growing Up Pains of Adrian Plass, we meet the real Adrian Plass, as opposed to his fictional counterpart in the Sacred Diary series. Cabbages for the King and View from a Bouncy Castle are collections of stories, sketches and poems which celebrate both the profundity and absurdity of life, while making keen points about the gospel. Underlying Adrian's irrepressible humour is his passionate conviction that God embraces us in our weakness and vulnerability, and that we need to gain a child-like perspective in order to understand just how much he loves us.

4.0 out of 5 stars a look at the "real" Adrian Plass, May 19, 2000

This review is from: Adrian Plass Classics (Three-In-One) (Paperback)
I had wondered for a while what the "real" Adrian Plass was like, having read -- and loved -- the Sacred Diary and some of his other books. This volume is not so uproariously funny as other books by Plass, but it is well worth reading. I enjoyed the Growing Up Pains the most, seeing how his experiences and the people he had known had shaped him and his understanding of God. View from a Bouncy Castle and Cabbages for the King contain some worthwhile and sometimes very entertaining reading, but they are not continuous stories with a plot to carry them through so I found the book easier to put down than I usually do with one of Plass' books. Still, I appreciate getting to know the author better through his reflections on a variety of subjects, and being reminded of God's patient love for me.
