5.0 out of 5 stars The wait was worth it!
Loved this book!

Adrienne is assaulted while on campus by a disgruntled student when Malik comes out of nowhere to save her. She is taken back to Bron (modern day Asia) to become Malik's not-so-willing bride. Malik is the king of Ulan, with a short temper and sort of cruel to his people; Adrienne tames the beast as she learns to love Malik.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute story
This book would have been entertaining and thoroughly enjoyed if I were still a young girl reading Harlequin romance novels. I found the book to be missing depth and character development. The heroine was annoying and I could not relate to her at all. I actually grew to dislike Adrienne as the storyline progressed. This story had great potential but it felt a bit rushed...

No racy sex or erotica, just a nice romantic storyline along with a few surprises that keeps this story interesting enough from start to finish.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sci Fi at it's Best, May 29, 2008
This review is from: Adrienne (Bron Universe Novel) (Paperback)
I have been anticipating this book since I read about it months ago. I was not disappointed. Mrs. Bagby is truly a great story teller. The books starts out with the main character being abducted by her future husband followed by issues they face together on Bron. The book was good from the beginning to end. (Where most book fizzle in the middle) this one did not. I am so happy someone was able to keep my attention and incorporate Sci Fi within it. Great Job! I would recommend this to anyone who loves IR, Sci Fi and mystery. I look forward to order her other books.

STORY BRIEF:
Malik lives in another dimension, a parallel earth known as Bron. Malik is king of Ulan, one of 14 kingdoms on Bron. Kakra is a rival kingdom. Malik must marry his one-true blood mate before his 25th birthday or he forfeits his throne, and the king of Kakra will take over Ulan. Using magic Malik finds his mate, Adrienne, a college student human on Earth. Malik travels to the Earth dimension just in time to save Adrienne from a rape in progress. He kills the two attackers and takes her to Bron. Much of the story is Adrienne reacting to this strange new world. She is a reluctant queen-to-be. She doesn't like the clothes. She doesn't want to socialize or meet anyone. She wants Malik to stay away from her and not talk to her. She discovers many people have magic abilities on Bron. She finds herself able to do magic as well. The longer she is there, the stronger her powers become. One of her powers is communicating with animals. She has an interesting relationship with Fehr, Malik's pet panther-like creature. Because of the feud with other kingdoms, Adrienne's life is in danger and Malik has full-time guards assigned to her.

REVIEWER'S OPINION:
There is more magic and fantasy than romantic relationship development, but the relationship story is good. This feels like an offbeat story about Cinderella's life starting AFTER Prince Charming takes her to the castle. But in this case, we have a reluctant Cinderella who is annoyed with what she finds. However, she comes to like things and fits in in interesting ways. Some readers may not be happy with the imperfect hero Malik. As another reviewer "Winnie G" states he has a short temper and is sort of cruel to his people. The words "refreshing change" in my title come from the reviewer "D. Quinn." It fits well. Thank you to both.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute story, January 25, 2011

This book would have been entertaining and thoroughly enjoyed if I were still a young girl reading Harlequin romance novels. I found the book to be missing depth and character development. The heroine was annoying and I could not relate to her at all. I actually grew to dislike Adrienne as the storyline progressed. This story had great potential but it felt a bit rushed. However, I enjoyed Malik's character. His character wasn't developed as much as I would have liked but at least I understood his motivation; anger, self-preservation, and lust. The story was cute, entertaining and funny at times. However, if you're expecting a story that engrosses your senses and pulls you into another world, this is not that story. If you are looking for an amazing time travel novel, I recommend Outlander. If you're looking for a great sci-fi novel that delivers a mesmerizing, fully developed world check out Acacia: The War with the Mein. I would love to see more from this author as the alternate universe was truly a unique world and the magical powers were intriguing. The storyline has great potential but could use more in-depth character development.

4.0 out of 5 stars Adrienne!!!, September 12, 2010

I didn't read any reviews for this book. I am all about the I/R mixed with a lil paranormal. So this book was right up my alley. I have to say that I enjoyed the book. Who wouldnt like to be swept away to another dimension to be Queen and rule with a hot asian King. Did I forget that you'll also have magically powers as well. I mean overall the book was good. I enjoyed how Adrienne"s relationship with Malik evolved as well as her realtionship with the guards and the maids. She brought a sense of balance to the kingdom. Overall good book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as her 'Serenity", February 7, 2009

This review is from: Adrienne (Bron Universe Novel) (Paperback)
I actually read her 'Serenity' book first. If I had read 'Adrienne' first I might not have picked up her second. I found Adrienne to be kind of "bitchy" in the begining and had to struggle to get past the first few chapters with her personality. Overall the story was decent and had an interesting concept. However if you pick up this book first and don't like it please give the author a second chance with 'Serenity' which is an excellent book.

1st I love the cover of the book. Out standing Sci Fi/ Fantasy book to read. Great plot and love the story line. You do not get to many books out there that is multicultural and this is one of them. This book covers all kind of people, Asian; black; white; gay and so on... When you read this book I feel that the characters really work well togather. At 1st I did not like Malik because, he took Adrienne from her family and took her power of choosing to stay with him. When I got deeper into the book, I could not help but fall in love with the characters. Adrienne and Malik where the perfect soul mate for each other. This author will be put on my list to collect books from. This is a must read, money worth spending. It took me 6 days to read this book and wanted to read more about Adrienne and Malik by D. Rennee Bacby. I can not wait to read more books about Adrienne and Malik. TO THE AUTHER KEEP UP THE CREATIVE WRITING AND THINKING OUT OF THE BOX. OUTSTANDING READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Adrienne (Bron Universe Novel)

I loved this book. The world building was incredible and I felt for all of the characters. There were many twists throughout the book and it was an incredible read. It is a spicy romance. If you are looking for a good fantasy romance, I would strongly recommend this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars not good, January 28, 2009
This review is from: Adrienne (Bron Universe Novel) (Paperback)
I love good writing. Thorough character development and consistency are a mainstay in the books I find entertaining. I personally love fantasy and sci-fi. This book seemed like the perfect fit for a reader such as myself. My goodness I was so very wrong. Sorry but no good writing to be found here. The characters were not consistent or believable. There were massively gapping holes in the science fiction aspects of the story. The romance, was simply missing. The sex part was there alright, however couldn't help but wonder how I was expected to buy into these nonsensical encounters. It was a wasted purchase. If you are just hung up on the AM BW thing and want to read about them having sex than you'll likely love this book, but check it out from the library don't buy it. If you are like myself and have basic standards for the books you like to spend your time with, then stay away from this ... um. .."book". "A Drummers Beat To Mend" is a much better choice for those interested in the AM BW pairing, as well as nicely written books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved It!!, December 12, 2011

This review is from: Adrienne (Bron Universe Novel) (Paperback)
I bought this book over the summer when I had some time to kill and wasn't quite sure what to expect. I got sucked into the story but, unfortunately, school started and I had to stop 3/4 of the way through. Thankfully, I was finally able to scrounge up some time to finish it (procrastinated on a school project). I don't have a lot of free time to read so when I do I am really picky about the books and authors I choose but I can say that this author is on my list of "go to" books for Christmas break!
